BACKGROUND: Meniere's disease arises when an abnormal fluid accumulation results in heightened pressure within the inner ear or labyrinth. Its symptoms encompass vertigo, tinnitus, hearing loss, and a sensation of fullness in the ear. Various triggers for Meniere's disease are known, from smoking and alcohol consumption to recent viral illnesses, allergies, and anxiety. Meniere's disease presenting as a postinfectious inflammatory condition secondary to parasitic disease is unknown.

Background: Labyrinthitis, an inner ear infection affecting the membranous labyrinth, typically presents with symptoms such as dizziness, nausea, vomiting, tinnitus, and hearing loss. However, there is limited epidemiological data on this condition. Purpose: This case report presents the results of audiovestibular evaluation and vestibular rehabilitation regarding unilateral sudden hearing loss and acute vestibular syndrome caused by rare labyrinthitis in a pediatric patient. Research Design: This is a case report. Study Sample: The study sample included a 5-year-old girl with unilateral sudde

BACKGROUND: Salivary gland choristoma (SGCh) is a rare benign tumor reported in several unusual sites, such as the gastrointestinal tract, the optic nerve, and the internal auditory canal, but never reported in the inner ear.
CASE PRESENTATION: An 8-year-old girl with a history of left profound congenital hearing loss presented to us with ipsilateral progressive severe facial nerve palsy (House-Brackmann Grade VI). The left tympanic membrane was swollen with a pulsatile tumor. Radiological investigations revealed a multilocular tumor in the inner ear extending into the middle ear and internal

Recent studies show that several audiovestibular pathologies in the paediatric population may be immune-mediated. This is even more probable if the pathology is associated with a coexisting systemic autoimmune disorder. At this time, however, the current literature is limited to a few case reports, and little is known with regard to prevalence, diagnosis, and management of immune-mediated inner-ear disorders in children. This review aims to shed some light on clinical presentation, diagnosis, and treatment of paediatric immune-mediated inner-ear disorders. Sudden and progressive sensorineural

A woman, who presented with symptoms of unilateral Ménière's disease, was found to have an adenoma of the endolymphatic sac, when an endolymphatic sac decompression was performed. Such a finding has not previously been reported. The possible role of the tumor in causing endolymphatic hydrops is discussed.

Persistent labyrinthine symptoms may manifest as unsteadiness veering or frank rotational vertigo. When these symptoms are resistant to medical therapy and are associated with hearing in the involved ear which is not of a serviceable level, then a transmastoid labyrinthectomy may be of value in ridding the individual of this disability. We have found that this operation may be performed expeditiously and safely; and if the entire vestibular epithelium is removed, the results of surgery are effective and predictable.

What should one do when a patient presents with a potentially dangerous chronic otitis, and the other ear is absent? An analysis of such dangerous cases with a cholesteatoma, more especially those with a labyrinthine fistula. Responsibility has to be taken. Medico-legal problems are evoked.

A case--report is given of a patient with Cogan's syndrome in childhood. This syndrome consists of non-syphilitic interstitial keratitis and vestibuloauditory symptoms. Visual loss is rare but hearing loss is rapidly progressive. A relation to autoimmune diseases especially to panarteriitis nodosa has been suggested by a number of authors.
