Onychomycosis is the most common cause of deformed nails. It is often confused clinically with other nail diseases such as psoriasis. A cross sectional study was carried out in 120 clinically suspected onychomycosis patients to assess the diagnostic utility of nail unit histopathology. The majority of the patients were males (72.5%) in the age group of 20-40 years (55%). Involvement of fingernails alone (37.5%) was found to be more common than toenails (12.5%). Congenital cutaneous candidiasis (CCC) is usually a benign condition characterized by various skin manifestations and is rarely associated with nail changes. We report a premature infant with CCC who developed dystrophy of all 20 nails at about 1 month of age. Nail dystrophy due to Candida albicans in the young infant may be differentiated from other congenital or hereditary nail malformations by appearance, recovery of the organism in nail culture, and complete resolution over a period of several months.

BACKGROUND: We present here a patient with an unusual type of nail plate pigmentation featuring pseudopod formation.
OBJECTIVE: To identify additional dermoscopic criteria.
METHODS: Dermoscopy of the nail with control biopsy.
RESULTS: Pseudopods of the nail resulted from erythrocytes entrapped between the layers of the nail plate.
CONCLUSION: Pseudopod formation of the nail may represent a diagnostic criterion to distinguish hemorrhage and melanoma of the nail apparatus.

BACKGROUND: Among the therapeutic possibilities for onychomycosis, chemicalnail avulsion is a logical approach to the eradication of the pathogen.
METHODS: A new formulation was used as a nail lacquer containing 40% urea in a film-forming solution in 10 patients presenting with onychomycosis. The urea nail lacquer was applied with a brush twice a day for 1 week by the patient and for a further week in two patients presenting total dystrophic onychomycosis.
RESULTS: This transungual delivery system weakens the nail plate/nail bed attachment in the diseased area.

Acquired pigmentary changes of the nail are secondary to a number of etiologies. These include nail matrix nevi; physical induction secondary to trauma; malignant melanoma; nutritional deficiencies; inflammation secondary to lichen planus; endocrine causes such as Addison's disease; or secondary to bacterial, fungal, or viral infections. The most important task faced by clinicians is to distinguish benign from malignant etiologies of nail pigmentation. We will briefly review the various entities that can yield dyspigmentation and their differentiation from melanoma of the nail.

Topical hydroquinone is used in the treatment of a number of skin conditions. A 33-year-old male presented with brown discolouration of the fingernails following the application of 4% hydroquinone in sorbolene cream and 0.1% tretinoin cream to the face intermittently for 9 months. The authors present a three-year retrospective group of 32 adult patients with the diaphyseal fractures of the forearm treated surgically. Only in 3 cases a standard plate technique was used. All other surgeries were performed by intramedullary nailing using Prevot nails, strong Kirschner wires, True/Flex flexible nails and a bilaterally locked Foresight nail. INTRODUCTION: We have retrospectively reviewed our experience in the treatment of traumatic loss of the whole nail complex.
METHOD: Contrai … aetiology was a burn in one case and direct trauma in the other 13. We obtained 11 good results; 2 nails with slight dystrophy and one failure secondary to an infection (the burn case). The coin test was good in 13 cases and the mean cosmetic VAS was 8/10.
