Structural Insights into the Foregut of the Arabian Jerboa (Jaculus loftusi): A Combined Anatomical, Morphological, and Histological Study.

The current work provides a comprehensive structural insight into the foregut of the Arabian jerboa (Jaculus loftusi), using anatomical exam … nalysis revealed that the gastric mucosa, along with the pit surface lining cells, exhibited strong Periodic Acid Schiff positivity and mild Alcian Blue staining. The stomach epithelium exhibits dominance of neutral mucins over acidic mucins as indicated by the histochemical analysis. The obtained results provide a comprehensive insight into the modifications o …

Cytoplasmic Granules in Granular Cell Tumor and Congenital Epulis: A Histochemical and Immunohistochemical Note.

BACKGROUND: Cytoplasmic granularity is a distinctive histomorphologic feature observed in several oral lesions and is commonly attributed to … ight the nature and diagnostic significance of cytoplasmic granules in these two entities. RESULTS: Periodic acid–Schiff (PAS) staining shows variable positivity in both lesions and therefore provides limited discriminatory value. In contrast, Luxol fast blue (LFB) reliably demonstrates myelin-rich cytoplasmic granules in GCT, while CE remains negative. Immunoh …

Characterizing airway epithelial cultures grown on permeable inserts with different pore densities.

In vitro airway epithelial models, such as air-liquid interface (ALI) cultures, are widely used for disease modeling, therapeutic and toxicology testing, and studying epithelial-environmental interactions. However, it remains unknown whether the pore density of the permeable membrane inserts, on which primary human bronchial epithelial cells (HBEC) are grown, influences their morphological and differentiation characteristics. To investigate this, HBEC from seven donors were cultured on inserts with low (4 × 106 pores/cm2) and high (1 × 108 pores/cm2) pore densities and differentiated for 28 da

Epidemiological characteristics of influenza A virus, influenza B virus, respiratory syncytial virus, human rhinovirus, adenovirus and Mycoplasma pneumoniae infections in Henan, China.

OBJECTIVES: To clarify the epidemiological characteristics of Flu A, ADV, RSV, MP, HRV and Flu B in Henan, China. METHODS: A retrospective analysis was conducted on the nucleic acid test results of respiratory pathogens in 33,922 patients in a comprehensive hospital from April 2023 to March 2025. RESULTS: The total number of positive cases was 12,574, accounting for 37.07%. The overall positive rates were as follows: HRV 10.26%, MP 10.03%, Flu A 9.49%, RSV 5.67%, ADV 4.38%, and Flu B 2.87%. Flu A showed a gradually increasing trend with age, while RSV showed a gradually decreasing trend. MP,

Whipple's Disease: Panniculitis Among Other Dermatoses. A Case Report and Literature Review.

Whipple's disease (WD) is a rare infectious disease caused by Tropheryma whipplei , which primarily affects the gastrointestinal tract but m … esions revealed a non-vasculitic, septal-predominant panniculitis with foamy macrophages containing periodic acid-Schiff (PAS)-positive diastase-resistant intracytoplasmic inclusions, raising a strong suspicion of Whipple's disease. Subsequent duodenal biopsies confirmed the diagnosis by electron microscopy and polymerase chain reaction (PCR) for T. whipplei . …

INTRODUCTION: Neuroendocrine neoplasms (NENs) of rectal origin containing non-neuroendocrine components are extremely rare. Additionally, th … r (NET) components with mucous cell glands observed in 5% of the tumor. The mucous cell glands were Periodic acid-Schiff-positive and immunohistochemically positive for CK20, whereas synaptophysin, CD56, and chromogranin A were negative. Pharmacotherapy for Autoimmune Pulmonary Alveolar Proteinosis.

Pulmonary alveolar proteinosis is suspected when a "crazy paving" pattern is observed on a chest CT scan. This diagnosis is confirmed by the presence of eosinophilic extracellular material that shows positive staining with Periodic Acid Schiff on bronchoalveolar lavage samples. The autoimmune form of pulmonary alveolar proteinosis is confirmed by detecting anti-granulocyte-macrophage colony-stimulating factor antibodies in the patient's serum. The historical first-line treatment for autoimmune pulmonary alveolar proteinosis is whole lung lavage, which should only be performed in expert centers…

Xanthohumol exerts protective function on adriamycin-induced podocyte injury.

PURPOSE: Nephrotic syndrome (NS) is the main cause of the increasing end-stage renal disease (ESRD) patients worldwide. Podocytes are considered the crucial cells involved in the progression of NS, and their damage can directly lead to proteinuria. The objective of this study was to explore the protective effects of xanthohumol (XN) on podocyte injury. METHODS: Adriamycin (ADR)-induced podocyte injury in vivo and in vitro models were established to explore the effects of XN on adriamycin nephropathy (AN) by urine and serum biochemical assay, periodic acid-schiff (PAS) staining, immunohistoche…

Obtusifolin ameliorates dry eye model in rats by reducing inflammation and blocking MAPK/NF-κB pathways.

AIM: To investigate the functions and potential mechanisms of obtusifolin in dry eye disease (DED) in a rat model. METHODS: A rat DED model was established via topical administration of benzalkonium chloride (BAC), followed by administration of obtusifolin. Conjunctival irritation score and tear production were measured to evaluate DED symptoms. Enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) was employed for determining inflammatory cytokine levels in rat conjunctiva. Periodic acid-Schiff staining and corneal fluorescein staining were implemented for assessing goblet cell numbers and corneal epith…

Macrophage membrane-encapsulated miRNA nanodelivery system for the treatment of hemophilic arthritis.

Hemophilic arthritis (HA) is one of the most pathologically altered joint diseases. Specifically, periodic spontaneous hemorrhage-induced hyperinflammation of the synovium and irreversible destruction of the cartilage are the main mechanisms that profoundly affect the behavioral functioning and quality of life of patients. In this study, we isolated and characterized platelet-rich plasma-derived exosomes (PRP-exo). We performed microRNA (miRNA) sequencing and bioinformatics analysis on these exosomes to identify the most abundant miRNA, miR-451a. Following this, we developed an M@ZIF-8@miR nan

Neuronal ceroid lipofuscinosis in a Schapendoes dog is caused by a missense variant in CLN6.

Neuronal ceroid lipofuscinosis (NCL) is a group of neurodegenerative disorders that occur in humans, dogs, and several other species. NCL is characterised clinically by progressive deterioration of cognitive and motor function, epileptic seizures, and visual impairment. Most forms present early in life and eventually lead to premature death. Typical pathological changes include neuronal accumulation of autofluorescent, periodic acid-Schiff- and Sudan black B-positive lipopigments, as well as marked loss of neurons in the central nervous system. Here, we describe a 19-month-old Schapendoes dog,…
