[Short- and medium-term intraocular pressure lowering effects of combined phacoemulsification and non-penetrating deep sclerectomy without scleral implant or antifibrotics].

PURPOSE: To examine the short- and medium-term intraocular pressure (IOP) lowering effects of combined phacoemulsification and non-penetrating deep sclerectomy without the use of scleral implant or antifibrotics in open-angle glaucoma (primary and pseudoexfoliative) and coexisting cataract in eyes with no known risk factors for bleb failure. METHODS: Retrospective study of 15 eyes of 12 patients with medically uncontrolled open-angle glaucoma or open-angle glaucoma treated with two or more drugs and coexisting cataract with no known risk factors for glaucoma surgery failure. All patients rece…

Intraocular pressure and medication control after clear corneal phacoemulsification and AcrySof posterior chamber intraocular lens implantation in patients with filtering blebs.

PURPOSE: To determine whether clear corneal phacoemulsification and the implantation of a copolymer acrylic (AcrySof, Alcon, Fort Worth, TX) intraocular lens will maintain the intraocular pressure (IOP) and number of medications in patients with a previous filtering bleb. PATIENTS AND METHODS: This retrospective analysis included 69 consecutive patients with previous trabeculectomy who had a copolymer acrylic intraocular lens implanted during cataract surgery between 1995 and 1999 by a single surgeon (A.C.S.C.). RESULTS: Mean IOP significantly decreased from 26.03 mm Hg (range, 14.5-70 mm Hg…

The extent of peripheral anterior synechiae and efficacy of combined phacoemulsification and goniosynechialysis in primary angle-closure glaucoma and cataracts: A multicenter prospective study.

PURPOSE: To investigate the association between the preoperative extent of peripheral anterior synechiae (PAS) and the efficacy of combined phacoemulsification (PEI) and goniosynechialysis (GSL) in primary angle-closure glaucoma (PACG) with cataracts. DESIGN: Multicenter prospective study METHODS: Patients with PACG and cataracts undergoing PEI-GSL were recruited from five hospitals between November 1, 2022, and March 12, 2024. According to the extent of PAS, the patients were divided into three groups: PAS < 180°, 180°≤ PAS ≤ 270°, and 270°< PAS ≤ 360°. Intraocular pressure (IOP), the number…

Factors influencing corneal edema after phacoemulsification combined with intraocular lens implantation in elderly diabetic cataract patients and establishment of a predictive model.

This study aimed to explore the factors influencing corneal edema after phacoemulsification combined with intraocular lens implantation in elderly diabetic cataract (DC) patients and to establish a predictive model. A retrospective analysis was conducted on 300 DC patients who underwent phacoemulsification combined with intraocular lens implantation in our hospital between June 2022 and October 2023. Patients were randomly divided into a modeling group (n = 210) and a validation group (n = 90) in a 7:3 ratio. The modeling group was further divided into corneal-edema group (n = 57) and non-corn…

Long-term outcomes after phacoemulsification and trabeculectomy in uncontrolled glaucoma and cataract in staged versus combined approaches: a single-center observational study.

OBJECTIVE: To assess the long-term (4 year) outcomes of staged (phacoemulsification ≥6 months prior to trabeculectomy) or combined (phacotrabeculectomy) surgical approaches in patients with uncontrolled glaucoma. METHODS AND ANALYSIS: Patients who underwent trabeculectomy alone (with phacoemulsification at least 6 months before trabeculectomy - staged approach) and simultaneous phacotrabeculectomy (combined approach) were included in this retrospective chart review study. Surgical success was defined as complete (without medication) or qualified (with medication) according to 3 criteria of upp…

Long-term outcomes of phacoemulsification and intraocular lens implantation combined with goniosynechialysis for primary angle-closure glaucoma with 360° peripheral anterior synechiae.

BACKGROUND: Phacoemulsification combined with intraocular lens implantation and goniosynechialysis (PEI + GSL) represents a mainstream surgical techniquefor the treatment of primary angle-closure glaucoma (PACG). As the disease progresses, when the extent of peripheral anterior synechiae (PAS) gradually expands to 360°, whether PEI + GSL remains effective remains uncertain. This study aimed to investigate the long-term clinical efficacyof PEI + GSL in treating PACG patients with 360° PAS. METHODS: A case‒control study was conducted on PACG patients with 360° PAS (360° PAS group) and those …

METHODS: Retrospective analysis of 120 diabetic patients who underwent PPV or PPVCE. RESULTS: The key outcome indicators were best-corrected visual acuity (BCVA) and post-operative complications. The PPVCE group had an average age of 53 years, with 50% females and 50% males. The initial visual acuity (VA) was 1.84 log MAR. In this group, BCVA remained stable or increased in 61 eyes (74%).
