"This paper examines the impact of the disintegration of the Soviet Union on migration patterns within the newly independent states. Data on migration between Russia and the other 14 former Soviet republics are analyzed to reveal the magnitude and ethnic composition of migration after independence and to examine the assumption that Russians will tend to return to Russia, whereas members of other titular groups will emigrate to their respective newly independent states. The data suggest that nationalization not only pushes non-titular groups to emigrate from the former Soviet republics, but als

This study was conducted on Manoka Island (Littoral Region of Cameroon) with the aim of analyzing climate change vulnerability and local adaptation strategies based on the local community's perceptions and biophysical evidence. We used household surveys, focus group discussions, field observation, GIS, and remote sensing to collect data on variables of exposure, sensitivity, and adaptive capacity. Historical changes in rainfall and temperature, mangrove cover, and the occurrence of extreme climatic events were used as indicators of exposure. Property losses and income structure were used as in

Since 2002, the Farm Block Development Program was one of the flagship initiatives within Zambia's agricultural policy. This program was designed to promote commercialization of rural agricultural lands, to contribute to national food security, economic growth, and improved rural livelihoods. However, host community concerns remained untold. This paper aimed at shedding light on those concerns, and the factors associated with household incomes. A qualitative evaluation of submissions from Luena Farm Block residents in Kawambwa district in Zambia, showed that reticent project reception; fears o

A house to house survey as a part of mass treatment of scabies was done in one of the resettlement colonies of Delhi with a population of 9341 in 2035 families, to study some of the sociocultural and environmental factors in families having scabies patients. Debates continue over the effectiveness of limiting alcohol outlet density in reducing alcohol consumption, and its broader impacts on access to non-alcoholic services in low-income urban communities remain underexplored. This study addresses this gap by investigating the impacts of alcohol outlet zoning policies on alcohol consumption and walkable access to non-alcoholic services in low-income urban communities with different baseline densities of liquor and grocery stores. We developed a spatial agent-based model of Baltimore City neighborhoods, simulating the closure of non-conforming liquo

Adolescent health and well-being is significantly influenced by the urban living environment. This study examined what health and well-being mean to adolescents and how they perceive neighborhood factors as influencing them. Interviews with 15 adolescent boys from a low socioeconomic urban neighborhood in the City of Utrecht, the Netherlands, reveal that, according to these boys, doing fun things and spending time with friends and peers underpin their health. The adolescents indicated that such activities support adolescents' subjective well-being by providing opportunities to, inter alia, dev

"A comparative analysis of mortality, in which standardized death rates...were used, was conducted for 24 European and 5...[other] developed countries. The analysis shows that in spite of medical progress in fighting high mortality stemming from primary sources (diseases of [the] circulatory system and malignant neoplasms), its very high level is still registered in many Middle and Eastern European countries (especially in Hungary, in former Czechoslovakia and Poland). A high increase of premature mortality of men aged 45-64 is also observed."

This study explores the pathways linking social capital, built environments, and depressive symptoms among older Chinese adults.
METHODS: Data were drawn from the 2016 wave of the China Family Panel Study (CFPS), including 3483 urban and 3812 rural adults aged 60 and above. The study examined the mediating and moderating role
