The inherited hypokalemic tubular disorders are frequently summarized under the heading "Bartter syndrome" since they shareseveral clinical and biochemical findings such as renal salt wasting, hypokalemic metabolic alkalosis, normal blood pressure despite hypereninemic hyperaldosteronism and hyperplasia of the juxtaglomerular apparatus. The effects of a copper-deficient diet supplemented with D-penicillamine on both the structure and exocrine function of the pancreas were studied in rabbits. The pancreases of the animals kept on this diet for 13 weeks showed lesions in the acinar tissue but not in ductal or islet tissue. The weights of the glands were markedly reduced. Antidepressant drug imipramine hydrochloride (IMP) is amphiphilic which shows surfactant-like behavior in aqueous solutions. We have studied the effect of adding electrolytes and non-electrolytes on the micellar behavior of IMP by making cloud point (CP) and dye solubilization measurements. The CP of a 100mM IMP solution (prepared in 10mM sodium phosphate (SP) buffer) was found to decrease with increasing pH, both in the absence as well as presence of added salts. The toxicity of chromium sulphate on plasma electrolytes (Na+, K+, Cl-) level and Na+, K(+)-ATPase activity of an economically important fish, Cyprinus carpio var. communis was evaluated. We report a case of sepsis due to Clostridium perfringens after termination of pregnancy at 22 weeks with feticide by cordocentesis. Three weeks earlier, the 41-year-old patient had undergone an amniocentesis and a full trisomy 13 karyotype had been discovered. Feticide was performed by injection of thiopental and potassium chloride after percutaneous umbilical foetal blood sampling through the same needle. There are limited reports of the prevalence of positive reactions in healthy adults to patch tests with standard allergens; there are no recent comprehensive studies from Australia. Healthy adult volunteers (n = 219) from the Western Australian community were patch tested using the European standard series of allergens. BACKGROUND: Triploid molar pregnancies are usually managed by evacuation of the uterine contents.
CASE: A 25-year-old woman had a clomiphene citrate-induced twin pregnancy. Ultrasound scan at 13 weeks revealed one anomalous twin. Cytogenetic analysis revealed a karyotype of 69, XXY and a normal other twin. In an attempt to salvage the normal fetus, selective termination was successfully performed at 15 weeks by intracardiac potassium chloride injection. However, the placenta continued to grow and severe preeclampsia developed at 19 weeks, requiring pregnancy termination.

This is a review of the 127 cases of drug-induced oesophagitis reported in the English language literature since 1970. The most common symptoms reported were retrosternal pain, odynophagia, and dysphagia. Most cases were self-limited and symptoms resolved in 7 to 10 days with symptomatic therapy. The mechanism of action of barium ion on the aortic smooth muscle of the normal rat was investigated using in vitro calcium-depleted aortic strips. Using A6 cells, an amphibian distal renal cell line, we observed that 63% of rubidium uptake in confluent A6 monolayers was ouabain-insensitive.
