Use of ChatGPT for Urinary Symptom Management Among People With Spinal Cord Injury or Disease: Qualitative Study.

BACKGROUND: Individuals with spinal cord injury or disease (SCI/D) experience disproportionately high rates of recurrent urinary tract infections, which are often complicated by atypical symptoms and delayed diagnoses. Patient-centered tools, like the Urinary Symptom Questionnaires for Neurogenic Bladder (USQNB), have been developed to support symptom assessment yet remain underused. Generative artificial intelligence tools such as ChatGPT may offer a more usable approach to improving symptom management by providing real-time, tailored health information directly to patients. OBJECTIVE: This

Acceptability, fidelity and implementation of systematic integrated pain management in oncology outpatient services: a process evaluation protocol for a multicentre clustered randomised pilot trial.

INTRODUCTION: In the UK National Health Service (NHS), most people with cancer are cared for at oncology outpatient services, where there are no standardised procedures for managing pain. As a result, patients with cancer may receive inadequate care for pain. The Cancer Pain-assessment Toolkit for Use in RoutinE oncology outpatient services aims to assess the feasibility of conducting a multicentre cluster-randomised trial of a systematic pain assessment and management programme integrated within routine care at UK NHS oncology outpatient services. This protocol describes an embedded process e

The nursing role in epidemiology, risk management, and patient-public education.

Epidemiology encompasses the identification of infectious disease, the vectors of transmission, the sources of contamination, the patient population exposed or involved, containment practices, and preventative measures to stop further transmission of the disease. Epidemic keratoconjunctivitis is a common infectious disease in ophthalmology. It can be contracted from interpersonal exposure, contact with contaminated items, or iatrogenic transmission from the health-care settings and providers. The interview process, plus patient education, is the method of epidemiologic assessment that acts as

Patients with juvenile idiopathic arthritis become adults: the role of transitional care.

Most juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA) patients need to attend adult rheumatology centres to continue the clinical management of their disease and to receive adequate long-term treatment. Transition from the paediatric to the adult health care team is a critical moment in the clinical history of these patients, but unfortunately, about 50% of the transfer processes to adult rheumatology are not successful, putting these patients at high risk of unfavourable outcomes. There are several obstacles to the success of transitional care for JIA patients, such as the absence of specific criteria for

Assessment of Patient-Physician Interactions in Psoriatic Arthritis: National Results of the ASSIST Study.

INTRODUCTION: An overarching principle for the management of psoriatic arthritis (PsA) is a shared decision-making process between physicians and patients. The aim of this study is to assess the patient-physician relationship in a group of patients with PsA, by using the Perceived Efficacy in Patient-Physician Interactions (PEPPI) and CollaboRATE instruments. METHODS: This is a cross-sectional multicenter study where consecutive patients with PsA were enrolled. For each patient, the main demographic, comorbid conditions, and clinical data were collected, including the assessment of disease ac

Preventing gambling-related harm among adolescents (PRoGRAM-A): an embedded multi-modal process evaluation in a pilot cluster random control trial.

BACKGROUND AND AIMS: Young people’s engagement in gambling can be linked to gambling-related harm. This can cause stress, anxiety, relationship issues, debt, and lost opportunities. There is a lack of independently funded, and evidence-based school-based interventions that seek to prevent and reduce the harms associated with gambling. PRoGRAM-A is one of the first independently research funded interventions to prevent gambling related harm in adolescents. This paper presents findings from an embedded process evaluation of the pilot cluster randomised control trial of PRoGRAM-A, with a specific

Rapid antiretroviral therapy initiation in the Botswana Combination Prevention Project: a quasi-experimental before and after study.

BACKGROUND: Ensuring that individuals who are living with HIV rapidly initiate antiretroviral therapy (ART) is an essential step in meeting the 90-90-90 targets. We evaluated the feasibility and outcomes of rapid ART initiation in the Botswana Combination Prevention Project (BCPP). We aimed to establish whether simplified ART initiation with the offer of same-day treatment could increase uptake and reduce time from clinic linkage to treatment initiation, while maintaining rates of retention in care and viral suppression. METHODS: We did a quasi-experimental before and after study with use of

The effects of early multiple-time PN counseling on newly HIV-diagnosed men who have sex with men in Taiwan.

Partner notification (PN) is an important method for controlling the AIDS epidemic worldwide. Here, we looked into the differences between two PN counseling modes for HIV (+) men who have sex with men in Taiwan. Using random assignment, we placed 42 of the 84 subjects into the experimental group where they received two sessions of PN counseling, while the control group (42) received only one session. All 84 subjects were single males with an average age of 28.06. The mean number of successful notified partner was 5.38 (SD = 3.44) in the experimental which was statistically significantly higher

Study protocol for two randomized controlled trials examining the effectiveness and safety of current weekend allied health services and a new stakeholder-driven model for acute medical/surgical patients versus no weekend allied health services.

BACKGROUND: Disinvestment from inefficient or ineffective health services is a growing priority for health care systems. Provision of allied health services over the weekend is now commonplace despite a relative paucity of evidence supporting their provision. The relatively high cost of providing this service combined with the paucity of evidence supporting its provision makes this a potential candidate for disinvestment so that resources consumed can be used in other areas. This study aims to determine the effectiveness, cost-effectiveness and safety of the current model of weekend allied hea

Transitions From Pediatric to Adult Neuromuscular Care: A Practical Guide.

As many as 90% of individuals with childhood onset diseases now live into adulthood. Due to this increase in lifespan, many, such as those with childhood onset neuromuscular disorders (NMDs), need health care transition to adult primary and specialty care providers. Despite growing recognition of the need for transition, only 17% of youth with special healthcare needs are receiving assistance with health care transition. One primary model of transition is the six core elements of transition as defined by the National Alliance to Advance Adolescent Health in their "Got Transition" which serves

Efficacy of a pediatric headache infusion center: A single-center experience.

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the efficacy of a pediatric headache infusion center (HIC) in alleviating the symptoms and preventing future visits to the emergency department (ED). BACKGROUND: Headache is a common reason for visits to the pediatric ED. ED visits are associated with inordinate costs of care and are conceived by parents to be avoidable if adequate alternatives are available. An infusion center for acute treatment of intractable headache in children with chronic migraine may be an effective alternative to an ED visit. METHODS: This was a retrospective analysis of data from a single-cen

NETS1HD: study protocol for development of a core outcome set for use in determining the overall success of Hirschsprung's disease treatment.

BACKGROUND: Use of core outcome sets in research has been proposed as a method for countering the problems caused by heterogeneity of outcome measure reporting. Heterogeneity of outcome measure reporting occurs in Hirschsprung's disease (HD) research and is limiting the development of a robust evidence base to support clinical practice. METHODS: Candidate outcome measures have been identified through a systematic review. These outcome measures will form the starting point for a three-phase online Delphi process to be carried out in parallel by three panels of experts. Panel 1 is a neonatal pa

Counseling about IUDs: a mixed-methods analysis.

CONTEXT: IUDs are infrequently used in the United States. Assessing how counseling about this method is delivered can help identify barriers to IUD use that might be overcome by improving services. METHODS: A sample of 342 family planning visits at six clinics in the San Francisco Bay Area in 2009-2012 were audio-recorded, and patients completed surveys both before and after their visits. Descriptive quantitative analyses of counseling were performed, and correlates of IUDs' being mentioned during counseling were investigated using logistic regression. Qualitative analyses investigated the co

Development of measures of the quality of emergency department care for children using a structured panel process.

BACKGROUND: Performance measures are essential components of public reporting and quality improvement. To date, few such measures exist to provide a comprehensive assessment of the quality of emergency department services for children. OBJECTIVES: Our goal was to use a systematic process to develop measures of emergency department care for children (0-19 years) that are (1) based on research evidence and expert opinion, (2) representative of a range of conditions treated in most emergency departments, (3) related to links between processes and outcomes, and (4) feasible to measure. METHODS:
