The diagnostic model from semi-supervised cross modality transformation improved the distinguished ability of X-rays for pulmonary tuberculosis.

BACKGROUND: Early diagnosis of tuberculosis is particularly difficult in resource-poor areas. Traditional chest X-rays (CXR) have limited accuracy, while CT scans are costly and involve radiation exposure. The study aims to improve the diagnostic accuracy of routine X-rays for pulmonary tuberculosis to approximate the performance of CT scans through building Artificial Intelligence (AI) model, suitable for primary healthcare settings lacking CT facilities. METHODS: In this study, datasets from our hospital and two open-source datasets, namely the Shenzhen Hospital dataset (CHNCXR) and the Mon

Elastic Registration-driven Deep Learning for Longitudinal Assessment of Systemic Sclerosis Interstitial Lung Disease at CT.

Background Longitudinal follow-up of interstitial lung diseases (ILDs) at CT mainly relies on the evaluation of the extent of ILD, without accounting for lung shrinkage. Purpose To develop a deep learning-based method to depict worsening of ILD based on lung shrinkage detection from elastic registration of chest CT scans in patients with systemic sclerosis (SSc). Materials and Methods Patients with SSc evaluated between January 2009 and October 2017 who had undergone at least two unenhanced supine CT scans of the chest and pulmonary function tests (PFTs) performed within 3 months were retrospe

Cardiac autonomic imaging with SPECT tracers.

Radionuclide cardiac imaging has potential to assess underlying molecular, electrophysiologic, and pathophysiologic processes of cardiac disease. An area of current interest is cardiac autonomic innervation imaging with a radiotracer such as (123)I-meta-iodobenzylguanidine ((123)I-mIBG), a norepinephrine analogue. Cardiac (123)I-mIBG uptake can be assessed by planar and SPECT techniques, involving determination of global uptake by a heart-to-mediastinal ratio, tracer washout between early and delayed images, and focal defects on tomographic images. Cardiac (123)I-mIBG findings have consistentl

Pictorial review of multidetector CT imaging of the preoperative evaluation of congenital heart disease.

Sequential segmental approach is an efficient method for complete evaluation of complex congenital heart diseases (CHD). Although echocardiography is the imaging technique of choice, recent advances in computed tomography and cardiac magnetic resonance have given a new dimension to the traditional diagnostic assessment of CHD. CT has advantages of fast speed, higher spatial resolution, and simultaneous lung and airway visualization. The purpose of this pictorial review is to discuss the role of CT and emphasize its protocol and the segmental approach for comprehensive assessment of CHD.

Accuracy of automatic airway morphometry in computed tomography-correlation of radiological-pathological findings.

OBJECTIVES: Airway morphology shows characteristic changes in different pathologies. This study assesses the accuracy of a current automatic airway assessment technique by correlating CT images of porcine airways to histological slices of the same localization. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Four isolated and ventilated porcine lungs were frozen in a liquid nitrogen bath and examined with a CT scanner (MDCT). This technique both preserved normal radiomorphological appearance and made it possible to slice the specimens for histological examination for subsequent correlation. The parameters wall thickn
