The author presents the epidemiological analysis of lip cancer in the sub-region of Varazdin. The parameters such as sex, age, histological type, localization and occupation of all recorded patients with lip cancer were analyzed. Amongst the 103 recorded patients with lip cancer there were 81 (78.64%) men and 22 (21.36%) women. The upper lip involvement was detected in 18 (17.46%) and the lower lip in 85 cases (82.54%). The incidence of postoperative discitis in a series of almost 7500 surgical interventions covering a period of 15 years is reported. Ninety patients (1.2%) were found to be suffering from typical symptoms, which are described and discussed. In dairy farmers exposed to the microbes present in hay, precipitating antibodies against these microbes are frequently found regardless of the state of health of the farmer. The prognostic value of these antibodies for the future health and working ability of farmers was studied in a six-year follow-up survey of 292 farmers. Despite evidence of immigrants' mental health advantage over natives, it remains unclear how this advantage evolves over the life course and what mechanisms underlie it.
