[Development and Empirical Study of an FMEA-Based Risk Management Model for CBCT Equipment].

OBJECTIVE: To construct a failure mode and effects analysis (FMEA) model for risk management of cone- beam computed tomography (CBCT) equipment and improve the level of equipment management. METHODS: The lean management tool FMEA was used for full-process management evaluation. A total of 15 CBCT devices were selected, and four types of failure modes, including technical performance, environmental interference, system software, and operation norms, were identified. A total of 58 failure modes were confirmed, of which 10 were classified as high-risk effective interventions were carried out on …

Contemporary Challenges in Venous Thromboembolism: Evolving Populations and Implications for Management and Risk Stratification.

Venous thromboembolism (VTE) remains a major cause of morbidity and mortality globally. The incidence of VTE continues to increase over time, contributed to by demographic shifts and emerging risk factors, such as novel cancer treatments and exposure to gender-affirming hormonal therapies. While the introduction of direct oral anticoagulants (DOACs) revolutionized VTE management, increasing complexity in select patient cohorts has driven the need for alternative treatment strategies, including pharmacological and interventional approaches. Concurrently, contemporary patient populations have ex

A roadmap for developing a program to self-manage post-traumatic knee osteoarthritis risk.

Youth and young adults who experience a traumatic knee injury (i.e., ligament, meniscus, or cartilage injury; intra-articular fracture or dislocation) have a 6-fold elevated risk of early-onset post-traumatic knee osteoarthritis (PTOA), contributing to joint pain and disability for most of their adult lives. This reality represents a daunting personal and societal burden. Currently, there is no proven clinical program that supports individuals at-risk of PTOA self-manage their knee health and reduce their risk, despite evidence that interventions supporting exercise, physical activity, and hea

Bone health in women with hidradenitis suppurativa: addressing osteoporosis risks and management options.

BACKGROUND: Hidradenitis suppurativa (HS) is a chronic inflammatory skin disorder characterized by painful nodules and abscesses in intertriginous areas, predominantly affecting women. Persistent systemic inflammation and hormonal changes may contribute to reduced bone health and an increased risk of osteoporosis in this population. OBJECTIVE: To highlight osteoporosis as an underrecognized comorbidity in women with HS and discuss contributing inflammatory, hormonal, and lifestyle-related risk factors that may predispose patients to bone compromise. METHODS: A narrative review of the literat

Accidents of occupational exposure to ionizing radiation in radiology departments: risks, prevention, and management.

Occupational exposure to ionizing radiation in radiology departments is a rare but important concern, given the potential long-term health effects and the regulatory framework surrounding radioprotection. This review analyzes the main risks associated with exposure to X-rays, including cancer, cataracts, radiodermatitis, pregnancy risks, and reduced fertility, as well as the specific contexts in which accidents occur. The majority of significant exposure incidents are reported in interventional radiology, where proximity to the radiation source and prolonged fluoroscopy times increase operator

Cardiovascular Toxicity of BTK Inhibitors: A Patient-Centered Framework for Risk Stratification and Management.

Bruton tyrosine kinase inhibitors have transformed the management of chronic lymphocytic leukemia and other B-cell malignancies, but their clinical use is increasingly influenced by cardiovascular safety. In contemporary practice, patients receiving these therapies are typically older and characterized by a high burden of comorbidities, including cardiovascular disease, metabolic disorders, and renal impairment. In this setting, cardiovascular complications should not be interpreted as isolated adverse events, but rather as clinical expressions of underlying patient vulnerability and frailty.

Adapting workplace violence strategies to manage company risk and the modern workforce paradigm.

As the remote workforce evolves, security professionals must align the workplace violence strategy to secure assets, data and employees to manage company risk tolerances. The threat of workplace violence is not only confined to the traditional office space, it is also a relevant threat for employees working from their own homes. Employees working from home do not have access to the same physical security protections or practices in place in the pre-pandemic workplace. This paper examines considerations for identifying and preparing for threats of violence and establishing a proactive approach

Risk factors and management of lung cancer in idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis: A comprehensive review.

Idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) is a fatal lung disease. Lung cancer (LC) is among the most crucial comorbidity factors in patients with IPF. IPF patients that are diagnosed with LC have a reduced mean survival time. Therapeutic strategies for LC in patients with IPF need to be adapted according to the individual treatment risk. Life-threatening acute exacerbation (AE) of IPF may occur in association with cancer treatment, thereby severely restricting the therapeutic options for IPF-associated LC. Because LC and anticancer treatments can worsen the prognosis of IPF, the prevention of LC is

Low-Risk Febrile Neutropenia Management: An Audit of Practice in a UK Cancer Center.

BACKGROUND: Febrile neutropenia (FN) is a known complication of chemotherapy. Guidelines from American Society of Clinical Oncology and National Institute for Health and Care Excellence support outpatient management for low-risk FN patients; however, implementation varies across United Kingdom (UK) cancer centers. While some centers have adopted outpatient pathways, others continue to rely on inpatient care, leading to inequities in FN management. Standardized use of risk stratification tools, such as the Multinational Association of Supportive Care in Cancer (MASCC) and Clinical Index of Stab

« Augmented radiotherapy » in the management of high-risk prostate cancer (PCa): A systematic review.

BACKGROUND: In patients with high-risk (HR) prostate cancer (PCa) treated with radiotherapy and androgen deprivation therapy (ADT), intensification with androgen receptor pathway inhibitor (ARPI) improves overall survival (OS), at the cost of significant side-effects. We hypothesized that "augmented RT" schedules (defined as either dose-escalation on the prostate gland over 78 Gy and/or addition of whole pelvic radiotherapy (WPRT)), combined with long-term ADT can reach excellent prostate cancer specific survival (PCSS) in this population with little detrimental impact on quality of life. Hypercoagulability in Tuberculosis: Pathophysiological Mechanisms, Associated Risks, and Advances in Management-A Narrative Review.

Tuberculosis (TB) induces a hypercoagulable state characterized by systemic inflammation, endothelial dysfunction, and alterations in the coagulation and fibrinolytic pathways. This review explores the pathophysiological mechanisms underlying hypercoagulability in TB, including increased pro-inflammatory cytokine release, endothelial damage, platelet activation, and reduced anticoagulant and fibrinolytic activity. These factors contribute to an elevated risk of venous thromboembolism (VTE), including deep vein thrombosis (DVT) and pulmonary embolism (PE), which complicate TB prognosis and trea

Opioid use disorder and concurrent benzodiazepine use: clinical risks and management strategies.

Concurrent use of benzodiazepines (BZDs) and opioids in patients with opioid use disorder (OUD) is prevalent and poses significant clinical challenges, including increased risks of overdose, ER visits, and treatment discontinuation. This article synthesizes current evidence on the prevalence, risks, and management of BZD co-use in OUD, focusing on patients receiving medications for OUD (MOUD) such as buprenorphine and methadone. Data indicate that approximately 16-21% of patients on buprenorphine and up to 40-47% of those on methadone use BZDs, with nonmedical use linked to a significant incre
