Using qualitative research and the person-based approach to coproduce an inclusive intervention for postpartum blood pressure self-management.

OBJECTIVE: To coproduce an inclusive intervention for blood pressure (BP) self-management post partum. DESIGN: Using the person-based approach, an intervention was coproduced in three phases. Phase 1 entailed intervention coproduction with a diverse patient and public involvement panel and stakeholders (clinical, academic, government and third sector-based). Phase 2 involved intervention optimisation through think-aloud interviews with former patients and clinicians. Phase 3 was user-testing followed by semistructured interviews with current patients and their clinicians. SETTING: Patients a…

Self-reported experiences and perspectives on using psychedelics to manage opioid use among participants of two Reddit communities.

BACKGROUND AND AIMS: The opioid crisis continues to exert a tremendous toll in North America, with existing interventions often falling short of addressing ongoing needs. Psychedelics are emerging as a possible alternative therapy for mental health and substance use disorders. This study aimed to gather insights on how people use or are considering using psychedelics to manage opioid use disorder (OUD), how these experiences are perceived to impact opioid use and what these lessons imply for future research and practice. METHODS: We conducted a qualitative study using the Reddit online commun

The transformative terrain: An in-depth analysis of trends in self-managed abortion in India using NFHS-5 national data.

In 2022, the World Health Organization endorsed self-managed abortion (SMA) with medical abortion pills as a safe abortion method. This study utilises India's National Family Health Survey Round 5 (2019-2021) data from 724,115 women to estimate state-level self-managed abortion (SMA). It examines SMA characteristics, trends over time, and self-reported complications in India using descriptive and multivariate analysis. This study finds significant regional disparities, with a higher proportion of self-managed abortions in the eastern (45%), central (39%), and north-eastern (31%) regions. A ris

We developed a 6-month interdisciplinary nurse-coordinated self-management intervention (INSELMA) based on the British Medical Research Council's framework for complex interventions. The intervention includes a biopsychosocial assessment, goal setting, and continuous support from the coordinating nurse, with referrals to other healthcare professionals and municipal offers. This study aimed to evaluate the feasibility of the INSELMA intervention. M…

Safety and efficacy of Kaffes intraductal self-expanding metal stents in the management of post-liver transplant anastomotic strictures.

BACKGROUND: Endoscopic management is the first-line therapy for post-liver-transplant anastomotic strictures. Although the optimal duration of treatment with plastic stents has been reported to be 8-12 months, data on safety and duration for metal stents in this setting is scarce. Due to limited access to endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) during the coronavirus disease 2019 pandemic in our centre, there was a change in practice towards increased usage and length-of-stay of the Kaffes biliary intraductal self-expanding stent in patients with suitable anatomy. This was mainly

Self-Management Systems for Patients and Clinicians in Parkinson Care: Protocol for an Integrated Scoping Review, Product Search, and Evaluation.

BACKGROUND: Parkinson disease (PD) poses emotional and financial challenges to patients, families, caregivers, and health care systems. Self-management systems show promise in empowering people with PD and enabling more control over their treatment. The collaborative nature of PD care requires communication between patients and health care professionals. While past reviews explored self-management systems in PD diagnosis and symptom management with a focus on patient portals, there is limited research addressing the interconnectivity of systems catering to the needs of both patients and clinic…

Development and Evaluation of a Digital App for Patient Self-Management of Opioid Use Disorder: Usability, Acceptability, and Utility Study.

BACKGROUND: Self-management of opioid use disorder (OUD) is an important component of treatment. Many patients receiving opioid agonist treatment in methadone maintenance treatment settings benefit from counseling treatments to help them improve their recovery skills but have insufficient access to these treatments between clinic appointments. In addition, many addiction medicine clinicians treating patients with OUD in a general medical clinic setting do not have consistent access to counseling referrals for their patients. This can lead to decreases in both treatment retention and overall pr…

Such injuries often correlate with psychiatric disorders like schizophrenia and alcohol dependence, posing significant clinical and psychological management hurdles. CASE PRESENTATION: A 36-year-old male with a history of chronic alcohol use and schizophrenia presented with a self-inflicted stab wound to the abdomen following auditory hallucinations. Upon admission, he was hemodynamically unstable, with eviscera

Efficacy of a multidimensional self-management intervention on low-education women with metabolic syndrome: a cluster randomized controlled trial.

Источник пометил публикацию как отозванную

Low-education women, a substantially older population, are subject to increased risks of metabolic syndrome and consequent cardiometabolic diseases; early detection and effective management were urgently needed. Ninety-nine women with metabolic syndrome, age 61 and education ≤ 6 years, from four community units were randomly assigned to either a self-management intervention (n = 51) or a control arm (n = 48). The intervention consisted of five dimensions, physical activity and diet modifications (daily exercise classes and two nutrition courses), goal setting, coaching and peer support, proble…
