Superior labral anterior to posterior (SLAP) tears include a number of abnormal changes of the superior glenoid labrum. SLAP tears have been first reported in elite young atlete and are caused by repetitive overhead motion or by a fall on an outstretched arm. SLAP can lead to chronic pain and instability of shoulder. A rotator cuff tear as a complication of anterior shoulder dislocation is well known in patients over 40 years old. The incidence of this accompanying injury correlates with the patient's age and the number of redislocations. The tear localization and dimension depend on the patient's age. To what extent these tears are a complication of shoulder dislocation is often unclear, as rotator cuff tears and glenohumeral instability interact. Reports on this combined injury pattern are rare, but based on the patient's age, activity level, and functional demand, therapeutic concepts have been devised.

BACKGROUND: Humans have unique characteristics making us the only primate that can throw well while most other primates throw predominately underhand with poor speed and accuracy. The purpose of this study is to illuminate the uniquely human characteristics that allow us to throw so well. Rupture of rotator cuff in the elderly people is mostly degenerative. Due to the rupture, function of the arm may be disturbed up to pseudo-paralysis. Apart from the functional disturbances the patient is suffering from tormenting nightly pain. The therapy for the elderly people will almost always be a conservative one. Apart from symptomatic measures, physical therapy to prevent a frozen shoulder is essential. With old age operational indication should be particularly restrictive and only where conservative treatment has failed so far.

This study presents the results of 107 shoulder reconstructions by one surgeon, of which 59 were Putti-Platt procedures, and 48 were combined Putti-Platt/Bankhart procedures. The patients were predominately young males engaged in contact sports, particularly the Rugby football codes. OBJECTIVE: We sought to compare the incidence and antecedents of neonatal brachial plexus injury (BPI) in 2 different 5-year epochs a decade apart following the introduction of specific staff training in the management of shoulder dystocia.

Traumatic brachial plexus injuries in children, excluding birth palsy, are seldom reported. In this study, we report on 11 cases operated upon between 1995-1998, and followed for at least 30 months. All patients were males with an average age of 11 years (range, 3-16 years). The denervation time averaged 3.8 months (range, 1-8 months). CASE: We report an unusual combination of injuries, terrible triad elbow fracture dislocation with ipsilateral avulsion of the triceps, and radial shaft fracture in a 23-year-old man. He was managed surgically and had good postoperative outcomes.
CONCLUSION: Evaluation of the triceps tendon avulsion injury is difficult in this context, such as problems evaluating the rotator cuff injuries after a shoulder fracture dislocation. Because of the diagnostic difficulty, a high index of suspicion is necessary.
