BACKGROUND: Survivors of critical illness are at increased risk of long-term impairments, referred to as post-intensive care unit (ICU) syndrome (PICS). Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is common among ICU survivors with reported rates of up to 27%. The prevalence of PTSD among Israeli ICU survivors has not been reported to date.
OBJECTIVES: To evaluate the prevalence of new onset PTSD diagnosed in a post-ICU clinic at a tertiary center in Israel.
METHODS: We conducted a retrospective, single center, cohort study. Data were collected from medical records of all patients who visited the

BACKGROUND: Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is a well-documented psychiatric outcome in patients who experience physical trauma. The phenomenon is less studied in the staff involved in caring for such patients. The aim was to investigate the prevalence of PTSD in visiting international surgeons undergoing elective trauma training and to compare to local and international rates.
METHODS: A trauma screening questionnaire (TSQ) survey was conducted among surgeons completing their elective trauma service placements in the Pietermaritzburg Metropolitan Trauma Service.
RESULTS: Nineteen surv

INTRODUCTION: Psychiatric conditions such as post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and depression have a two-fold increased dementia risk in Veterans. Prior work has shown that psychiatric factors can both impact cognitive functioning and be early symptoms associated with Alzheimer's disease (AD). Objectively defined subtle cognitive difficulties (Obj-SCD) has been associated with cognitive decline and AD biomarkers. However, Obj-SCD has not yet been investigated in the context of psychiatric disorders.
METHODS: A total of 179 cognitively unimpaired Veterans (50-92 years old) underwent a comp

The COVID-19 pandemic has disrupted people's lives and caused significant economic damage around the world, but its impact on people's mental health has not been paid due attention by the research community. According to anecdotal data, the pandemic has raised serious concerns related to mental health among the masses. However, no systematic investigations have been conducted previously on mental health monitoring and, in particular, detection of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). The goal of this study is to use classical machine learning approaches to classify tweets into COVID-PTSD posi

Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is characterized by anxiety, excessive fear, distress, and weakness as symptoms of a psychiatric disorder. However, the mechanism associated with its symptoms such as anxiety-like behaviors is not well understood. It is aimed to investigate the underlying mechanisms of the medial septum (MS)-medial habenula (MHb) neural circuit modulating the anxiety-like behaviors of PTSD mice through in vivo fiber photometry recording, optogenetics, behavioral testing by open-field and elevated plus maze, fluorescent gold retrograde tracer technology, and viral tracer te

Traffic accidents put tremendous burdens on the psychosocial aspects of communities. Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), after an accident, is one of the most prevalent and incapacitating psychiatric conditions worldwide. In this systematic review, we aimed to investigate the predictors of PTSD in traffic accident victims. Primary search was conducted in November 2021 and updated in 2023. Studies were excluded if they used any analysis except regression for predictors. Cumulatively, primary and update searches retrieved 10,392 articles from databases, and of these, 87 studies were systemati

OBJECTIVE: Mild traumatic brain injury (TBI) is associated with long-term consequences, including greater risk for posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and suicidal ideation. Affective instability is also independently related to PTSD and suicidality, which may explain why some individuals continue to experience chronic psychiatric complaints following mild TBI. The purpose of the present study was to evaluate affective instability as a key factor for PTSD and suicidal ideation among Veterans with and without TBI.
METHOD: Participants (N = 299 Veterans; 86.96% male) completed the Personality

Background: Childhood maltreatment (CM) is higher among welfare- and justice-involved youth than in those not involved in these systems, which increases the risk of depression and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). However, the mechanisms underlying the link between CM and these two psychiatric conditions are less well understood among at-risk populations in low- and middle-income countries. Objective: This study attempts to fill this gap by examining the prevalence of and risk factors for depression and PTSD among at-risk groups in Nigeria.Method: A cross-sectional research design using mu

This investigation, conducted within the Texas Childhood Trauma Research Network, investigated the prospective relationships between resiliency and emergent internalizing symptoms among trauma-exposed youth. The cohort encompassed 1262 youth, aged 8-20, from twelve health-related institutions across Texas, who completed assessments at baseline and one- and six-month follow-ups for resiliency, symptoms of depression, generalized anxiety, posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and other demographic and clinical characteristics. At baseline, greater resilience was positively associated with older

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: Post-traumatic stress disorder is a debilitating psychological condition that can manifest following exposure to traumatic events. It affects individuals from diverse backgrounds and is associated with various symptoms, including intrusive thoughts, nightmares, hyperarousal, and avoidance behaviors.
METHODS: To address this challenge this study proposes a decision support system powered by a novel multimodal deep learning approach, based on a stochastic Transformer and video data. This Transformer has the ability to take advantage of its stochastic activation functi

Complex post-traumatic stress disorder (C-PTSD) is an emergent diagnosis, which acknowledges the impact of prolonged interpersonal abuse on affect regulation, interpersonal functioning, and self-concept. We present the case of a 59-year-old woman who remained undiagnosed and untreated for this condition for three decades while under follow-up in mental health services for the diagnosis of personality disorder and bipolar disorder. The patient suffered repeated sexual abuse in her childhood, resulting in intrusive traumatic memories she emotionally and cognitively avoided, dissociative amnesia,

INTRODUCTION: 3,4-methylenedioxymethamphetamine-assisted therapy (MDMA-AT) for post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) has demonstrated promise in multiple clinical trials. MDMA is hypothesized to facilitate the therapeutic process, in part, by decreasing fear response during fear memory processing while increasing extinction learning. The acute administration of MDMA in healthy controls modifies recruitment of brain regions involved in the hyperactive fear response in PTSD such as the amygdala, hippocampus, and insula. However, to date there have been no neuroimaging studies aimed at directly e

Several heterogeneous pathophysiology pathways have been hypothesized for being involved in the onset and course of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). This systematic review aims to summarize the current evidence on the role of inflammation and immunological dysregulations in PTSD, investigating possible peripheral biomarkers linked to the neuroimmune response to stress. A total of 44 studies on the dysregulated inflammatory and metabolic response in subjects with PTSD with respect to controls were included. Eligibility criteria included full-text publications in the English language, huma

Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), which normally follows psychological trauma, has been increasingly studied as a brain disease. However, the blood-brain barrier (BBB) prevents conventional drugs for PTSD from entering the brain. Our previous studies proved the effectiveness of cannabidiol (CBD) against PTSD, but low water solubility, low brain targeting efficiency and poor bioavailability restricted its applications. Here, a bionic delivery system, camouflage CBD-loaded macrophage-membrane nanovesicles (CMNVs), was constructed via co-extrusion of CBD with macrophage membranes, which had
