Mental health therapists (MHTs) providing care during shared traumatic reality face distinct emotional and professional challenges, particularly when they are also personally affected. While a central concern is compassion fatigue, emotional exhaustion that arises from prolonged exposure to others' trauma, this concept does not capture the dual nature of the MHT's traumatic experience, both as a citizen of the region and as a helping professional exposed to the traumatic narratives of their clients. This study explores the shared traumatic reality experiences of MHTs working in a war zone, off

BACKGROUND: Successful palatal morphogenesis requires the precise spatiotemporal choreography of independent facial prominences. Our previous macroevolutionary analyses identified a convergence in amniote facial growth at primary palatal fusion, associated with reduced shape variability. We hypothesize that this constraint operates within individual species, representing a shared structural bottleneck where brain growth acts as a critical morphogenetic co-factor. To test this idea, we analyzed high-resolution 3D micro-CT images of embryonic chickens ( Gallus gallus , N=217) spanning primary pa

Deubiquitinases (DUBs) have long been viewed through the narrow lens of enzymatic catalysis, but emerging evidence reveals their non-catalytic domains as master regulators of oncogenic signaling. USP11, a structurally modular DUB, exemplifies this duality: beyond its canonical role in DNA repair, USP11 scaffolds key translational effectors such as eIF4B, sustaining the expression of pro-survival oncogenes in aggressive lymphomas. Here, we unveil RBF4 and RBF11, first-in-class, non-catalytic USP11 inhibitors discovered through pharmacophore-guided virtual screening anchored on the UBL domain in

The collapsible tubular mast (CTM) can be compactly folded for transport and deployed in orbit to serve as a key structural element. Once deployed, the CTM is vulnerable to buckling under axial load and bending moments, compromising its load-bearing capacity. The intricate relationship between the CTM's cross-section and its buckling behavior poses a significant challenge for designers. This is due to the ultra-thin nature of the CTM, which gives rise to highly localized buckling modes rather than global ones. To overcome this challenge, we developed surrogate models using a neural network (NN

In contrast to the subaquatic sulphide and carbonate chimneys, which are known from Mid Ocean Ridges and abyssal submarine volcanoes, chimneys built of salts have not been described yet. Here we present such halite chimneys as a new form of cold-water smokers in hypersaline environments. The here described structures rise up from the bottom of the Dead Sea and result from the submarine discharge of saturated halite-dissolution brines into the salt lake, which is at halite saturation and holds remarkable chloride excess. At the interface with the lake brine, halite precipitates instantaneously,

The ligamentous structures of the wrist stabilise and constrain the interactions of the carpal bones during active wrist motion; however, the three-dimensional translations and rotations of the scaphoid, lunate and capitate in the normal and ligament deficient wrist during planar and oblique wrist motions remain poorly understood. This study employed a computer-controlled simulator to replicate physiological wrist motion by dynamic muscle force application, while carpal kinematics were simultaneously measured using bi-plane x-ray fluoroscopy. The aim was to quantify carpal kinematics in the na

BACKGROUND AND AIM: Spilanthes acmella is used for the treatment of intestinal helminth infections in Mizo traditional medicine. In spite of a variety of drugs developed for helminthiases, an entirely safe and absolutely effective drug is still lacking, so much so that infections remain a major problem in human and animal welfare. In this study, we attempted to substantiate S. acmella as an anticestodal agent.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: The aqueous extract of the aerial parts of S. acmella was prepared and from it a bioactive fraction was obtained using column chromatography. Chemical analyses we

A structural graft is often used to maintain correction and achieve union after anterior calcaneal lengthening osteotomy for treatment of flexible flatfoot. Autograft, the current gold standard, is limited in availability and configuration and is associated with donor site morbidity in as much as 48%, whereas the alternative allograft carries risks of disease transmission and collapse. Polyaryletherketone cage, with a healing rate similar to that of autograft, high stability, and no donor-site morbidity, has been used in spine surgery. However, its use has not been documented in foot and ankle

Relapsing polychondritis (RP) is an unusually rare disease involving multiple organs. It has an episodic course, occasionally also progressing. Typically, inflammation of cartilaginous tissues and tissues rich in glycosaminoglycans is present. Clinical symptoms are concentrated in auricula, nose, larynx, upper respiratory tract, joints, heart, blood vessels, inner ear, cornea and sclera. Manifestations include: (1) chondritis of auricular, nasal, laryngotracheal, costal and joint cartilages, (2) inflammation of the eyes and inner ear, (3) collapse of laryngotracheal structures and structures i

Increasingly, electropalatography (EPG) is being used in speech pathology research to identify and describe speech disorders of neurological origin. However, limited data currently exists that describes normal articulatory segment timing and the degree of variability exhibited by normal speakers when assessed with EPG. Therefore, the purpose of the current investigation was to use the Reading EPG3 system to quantify segmental timing values and examine articulatory timing variability for three English consonants. Ten normal subjects repeated ten repetitions of CV words containing the target con

PURPOSE OF REVIEW: The rapidly developing field of podocyte cell biology is reviewed, focusing on papers published in the last 12 months.
RECENT FINDINGS: Four areas of particular progress can be discerned. First, podocytes proliferate during early metanephric development, are quiescent after the capillary loop stage, and re-enter the cell cycle only in the disease group termed collapsing glomerulopathy. We have learned that control of the podocyte cell cycle involves both expression of cell-cycle regulating proteins and the process of cytokinesis. Second, the podocyte slit diaphragm is the f

UNLABELLED: Biopsy specimens of the lateral aspect of the femoral head and neck were obtained from five children with Legg-Calvé-Perthes disease and were studied using histochemistry and electron microscopy. Beneath the normal articular cartilage there was a thick zone of hyaline (epiphyseal) cartilage containing sharply demarcated areas of hypercellular and fibrillated cartilage with prominent blood vessels. The fibrillated cartilage was strongly positive to alcian blue, weakly positive to periodic acid-Schiff, and positive to aniline blue. The interterritorial matrix in the hypercellular are

This study investigated how amylose content and intermolecular interactions regulate the 3D printability, structural properties, water distribution, and swallowing suitability of wheat starch gels for dysphagia patients. Gels containing 26-77% amylose were prepared, and hydrogen bonding or hydrophobic interactions were selectively changed using urea or NaCl. Printing tests showed that 43% amylose achieved the best filament continuity and dimensional fidelity (96.18 ± 0.32%), whereas low amylose caused extrusion breakage and high amylose (≥60%) led to structural collapse with printing accuracy

Recent cross-disorder meta-analyses have revealed substantial pleiotropic genetic architectures shared between Schizophrenia (SCZ) and Multiple Sclerosis (MS). However, reliance on automated 1D positional mapping heuristics has historically misattributed the significant shared risk locus at 12q24.31 (123.60 Mb) to adjacent structural genes, such as PITPNM2, obscuring the true biophysical checkpoint driving neuroimmune pathology. By integrating 3D chromatin conformation (Hi-C), historical Linkage Disequilibrium modeling (D' > 0.92), and state-dependent macrophage transcriptomics, we definitivel

Patients with multiple sclerosis (MS) display reduced structural connectivity among brain regions, but the pathogenic mechanisms underlying network disruption are still unknown. We aimed to investigate the association between the loss of diffusion-based structural connectivity, measured with graph theory metrics, and magnetic resonance (MR) markers of microstructural damage. Moreover, we evaluated the cognitive consequences of connectivity changes. We analysed the frontoparietal network in 102 MS participants and 25 healthy volunteers (HV). MR measures included radial diffusivity (RD), as mark

The structures of partially folded states appearing during the folding of a (betaalpha)(8) TIM barrel protein, the indole-3-glycerol phosphate synthase from Sulfolobus solfataricus (sIGPS), was assessed by hydrogen exchange mass spectrometry (HX-MS) and Gō model simulations. HX-MS analysis of the peptic peptides derived from the pulse-labeled product of the sub-millisecond folding reaction from the urea-denatured state revealed strong protection in the (betaalpha)(4) region, modest protection in the neighboring (betaalpha)(1-3) and (betaalpha)(5)beta(6) segments and no significant protection i

Despite remarkable advances in human genomics, most rare disorders remain undiagnosed, mechanistically obscure, and without effective treatments. In this study, we establish DRD1, encoding the dopamine D1 receptor (D1R), as a monogenic cause of an infantile-onset dystonia syndrome, for which pharmacological responsiveness may vary depending on the underlying molecular mechanism. Across three unrelated families, eight affected individuals exhibited generalised dystonia, axial hypotonia, and cognitive impairment and carried homozygous pathogenic missense DRD1 variants. Live-cell biosensor assays

Point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS) is increasingly used in neonatal intensive care units (NICUs) for hemodynamic assessment, but standardized protocols for central venous pressure (CVP) estimation remain lacking. This narrative review synthesizes current evidence on POCUS parameters-primarily the inferior vena cava collapsibility index (IVC-CI), maximum IVC diameter, the inferior vena cava-to-aortic ratio (IVC/Ao), and internal jugular vein (IJV) indices-for non-invasive CVP assessment in critically ill neonates. Key advances include demonstrating that ultrasound-measured IVC diameter correlates

Advances in single-cell RNA sequencing (scRNA-seq) enable the exploration of cellular heterogeneity at single-cell resolution. Accurate cell clustering is a prerequisite for delineating these identities; however, the inherent sparsity and prevalent dropout noise of scRNA-seq data pose major algorithmic challenges. Existing graph-based deep learning methods often struggle in this regime, suffering from the structural fragility of static neighbor graphs and the dimensional redundancy of latent embeddings. Thus, we introduce a novel method named Hypergraph-Attention-Guided Graph Refinement and Fe

The spatial organization of bacterial chromosomes is commonly attributed to nucleoid-associated proteins that compact DNA through bending and bridging interactions. Yet, the possible structural role of RNA in this process remains largely unexplored. Here we show that a small noncoding RNA (sRNA), DsrA, directly modulates DNA organization through its interaction with the amyloidogenic C-terminal region (CTR) of the nucleoid associated protein and RNA chaperone Hfq. Using nanofluidic confinement, we find that the Hfq-CTR strongly compacts λ-DNA, whereas addition of sRNA partially suppresses this
