Among the various techniques developed for the detection of platelet antibodies, the platelet suspension immunofluorescence test has been reported to be simple, sensitive and reproducible, and therefore more clinically useful than other techniques available. An initial evaluation of the test was carried out for the detection of platelet autoantibodies in ten cases of idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura. The indirect PSIFT was found to be positive in 60%. The technical aspects of the test and the problems encountered are discussed.

A prospective, double-blind study compared the effectiveness of sucralfate suspension with diphenhydramine syrup plus kaolin-pectin in reducing severity and pain of radiation-induced oropharyngeal mucositis. Fourteen patients who received at least 4600 cGy to the oral cavity used one of the mouth rinses four times a day, beginning at 1600 cGy. 109 adult patients with ITP were tested with the direct platelet suspension immunofluorescence test (PSIFT) for platelet-associated immunoglobulins (PAIg). 88 patients (81%) had a positive direct PSIFT. Since 1965, the procedure of abdominoperineal urethral suspension has been applied as the sole method of surgical correction in the management of patients suffering from recurrent urinary stress incontinence. During a 15-year period (1965 to 1980), 194 women were selected for this procedure by entirely clinical methods. Ancillary aids to diagnosis were not used. Inoculation with a crude suspension prepared from autologous liver cell carcinoma inhibited the development of liver tumor in cirrhotic rats exposed to 3'-methyl-4-diethylaminoazobenzene (3'-Me-DAB). The suspension had also an inhibitory effect on the growth of tumor in rats bearing liver cell carcinoma.
