United States Youth Perspectives on Zyn Oral Nicotine Pouches.

PURPOSE: Oral nicotine pouches (ONPs) such as Zyn are a rapidly growing nicotine delivery product among US youth. Although marketed as harm reduction tools for adult smokers, little is known about how young people perceive and use ONPs. METHODS: We conducted a nationwide text message survey through MyVoice in March 2025. A total of 704 youth aged 14-24 years were asked five open-ended questions about awareness, reasons for use, attitudes, risks, and the role of physicians in addressing Zyn use. Responses underwent qualitative content analysis by a four-member research team, with summary stati

PROTECTIVE-D-a feasibility randomised controlled trial examining the effect of a positive mood intervention and vitamin D supplementation on the immunological responses to influenza vaccination in older adults.

BACKGROUND: The effectiveness of vaccines in protecting against disease wanes with increasing age. There is some evidence that psychological wellness and vitamin D supplementation can increase vaccine effectiveness in older people. This study was designed to pilot the acceptability of, and compliance with, study procedures intended for a future large randomised controlled trial (RCT). The procedures included a positive mood intervention (PMI), the use of vitamin D supplements and self-collection of finger-prick blood samples. METHODS: Twenty-eight adults aged > 65 years were randomised to one

'Food allergy', 'eating too fast', 'absent peristalsis', and 'stress': patients' beliefs about what causes supragastric belching.

Understanding patients' beliefs about their medical condition is of significant importance as they drive individuals' attempts to cope with that condition. This study aimed to examine the beliefs patients with supragastric belching (SGB) have about their condition and the relationship between these beliefs, symptom report, and clinical and demographic variables. One hundred eight patients (67.6% female, mean age 44.07, range 18-80), with a consultant confirmed diagnosis of SGB following high resolution oesophageal manometry and 24-hour pH monitoring studies completed the Brief-Illness Percepti

Postpartum women's prospective acceptability of long-acting HIV prevention approaches in Kenya: a qualitative study.

BACKGROUND: New long-acting pre-exposure prophylaxis (LA-PrEP) options offer an alternative to daily oral PrEP, which poses difficulties for adherence, especially during pregnancy and postpartum. Yet, limited data exist on LA-PrEP acceptability among pregnant and postpartum women. We aimed to evaluate its acceptability and identify strategies to enhance it. METHODS: We conducted an exploratory qualitative study with postpartum women in five public health facilities in Kisumu and Siaya Counties, Kenya. We conducted 70 in-depth interviews (IDIs) with postpartum women between August 2023 and Mar

Feasibility and accuracy of the ASERT digital questionnaire in mood tracking for a longitudinal research study on bipolar disorder.

BACKGROUND: It is challenging for bipolar disorder (BD) studies to capture multiple mood states within a participant at in-person visits. Mood tracking could aid scheduling, but evaluation is usually done using clinical assessments inconvenient for participants to undergo often. However, frequent assessments are necessary to capture dynamic mood changes typical of BD. The Aktibipo Self-Rating Questionnaire (ASERT) is a simple, self-report mood survey. We examined the utility of collecting the ASERT weekly to assess mood changes and schedule follow-up visits. METHODS: Sixty-one participants wi

The Grief Navigation Trial: A multi-site pragmatic comparative effectiveness trial of two interventions to support parents after their child's unexpected or traumatic death.

BACKGROUND: In the US, ~60,000 people <25 years old die annually. Forty-five percent of pediatric deaths occur traumatically, and the parents' or caregivers' (hereafter 'parents') sole contact with the healthcare system is often the coroner or medical examiner (ME). Parents experience mental and physical health problems following their child's death. There are no evidence-based interventions for MEs supporting bereaved parents. Scalable, systems-level interventions are needed to connect bereaved parents to grief and social care support. This research will build upon the experience of Missing P

Incidence of food allergic reactions among adolescents engaged in food allergy management.

BACKGROUND: Although fatal food-induced anaphylaxis is rare, adolescence is the period of highest risk. However, we lack strong estimates of the incidence of food allergic reactions among adolescents. OBJECTIVE: To estimate the incidence of food allergic and anaphylactic reactions among adolescents with food allergy who have a prescription for epinephrine. METHODS: As part of a cohort study that was embedded in a randomized trial to promote safe food allergy management, we followed adolescents aged 15 to 19 years with food allergy and a current prescription for epinephrine for a period of 15

A History of Psycho-Neuro-Endocrine Immune Interactions in Rheumatic Diseases.

BACKGROUND: All active scientists stand on the shoulders of giants and many other more anonymous scientists, and this is not different in our field of psycho-neuro-endocrine immunology in rheumatic diseases. Too often, the modern world of publishing forgets about the collective enterprise of scientists. Some journals advise the authors to present only literature from the last decade, and it has become a natural attitude of many scientists to present only the latest publications. In order to work against this general unempirical behavior, neuroimmunomodulation devotes the 30th anniversary issue
