The lupus anticoagulant is an acquired serum immunoglobulin that prolongs several coagulation parameters, most notably the partial thromboplastin time (PTT). Most commonly, this condition is found in association with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) but may be seen with other collagen-vascular diseases and in otherwise healthy individuals. PURPOSE: To present a case of suspected Leber's hereditary optic neuropathy (LHON) with MRI and OCT findings compatible with pseudotumor cerebri responsive to acetazolamide therapy.
CASE REPORT: A five-year-old boy referred to our clinic with optic atrophy and low vision was originally diagnosed with LHON. Laboratory tests were negative for LHON, while OCT and MRI were consistent with pseudotumor cerebri. Acetazolamide therapy resulted in dramatic improvement of visual acuity.

A 42-year-old woman, without a specific medical history presented at the Department of Emergency Ophthalmology accusing marked decrease of vision for the left eye (VA 1/ 100). The eye examination revealed an optic neuropathy with multiple retinal hemorrhages at the level of both eyes, but more acutely on the left eye. The brain computer tomography (CT) excluded the suspicion of increasing intracranial pressure. The common blood tests such as complete blood count (CBC), erythrocyte sedimentation rate, and inflammatory markers raised a high suspicion of a malignant haematological disease.

This Letter studies the statistics of wavefront aberrations in a sample of eyes with normal vision. Methods relying on the statistics of the measured wavefront slopes are used, not including the aberration estimation stage. Power-law aberration models, an extension of the Kolmogorov one, are rejected by χ2-tests performed on fits to the slope structure function data. This is due to the large weight of defocus and astigmatism variations in normal eyes. Models of only second-order changes are not ruled out. The results are compared with previous works in the area.

Preeclampsia is a life-threatening disorder for both the mother and fetus. A 43-year-old woman presented with a 1-day history of bilateral decreased vision and no systemic complaints. A case of corneal ulcer in the right eye and iridocyclitis of the left eye, with mycotic ethiology in a 50 year woman who works in humid conditions with undefinite organic compounds. The diagnostic has been put through laboratory tests (direct frotee and culture). After the treatment with antimycotics the lesions have been epithelised, the patient leaving the hospital with good vision (VOD = 2/3, VOS = 1/3). After two years, in the picture of a sicca syndromme, the condition reappears in the left eye, the ulcer has perforated needing conjunctival covering.

The effect of restricting viewing time to 3.75 ms in normal subjects is to produce a tritan-like colour response on the City University colour vision test. This response pattern is consistent and is repeatable for standard illuminant C at 600 lx. Supplementary tests suggest that the effect is due to a defect of the blue/yellow opponent system rather than a true tritan defect. The same test when repeated on subjects with amblyopia or retinal pathology provides different results which may aid in the differential diagnosis of some visual disorders.

Human infection by toxocara larvae has been thought to be predominantly a disease of young children, but the percentage of the population with antibodies to this nematode worm has recently been shown to increase with age. In the motion aftereffect (MAE), a stationary pattern appears to move in the opposite direction to previously viewed motion. Here we report an MAE that is observed for a putatively high level of visual analysis-attentive tracking. PURPOSE: To compare two methods of postoperative dressing regimen: patching vs "instant vision" without patch.
DESIGN: Prospective randomized clinical trial.
METHODS: Sixty consecutive hospitalized, nonambulatory patients with cataract surgery under topical anesthesia on both eyes at different days were enrolled prospectively. In randomized order, one eye was patched for the first 24 hours postoperatively; the other eye was left open without patch to obtain "instant vision." Both eyes received the same anti-inflammatory and antibiotic drop therapy.

OBJECTIVE: To identify cutpoints for visual measures at baseline and 1 month predictive of abnormal 6-month vision that could be used as eligibility criteria in a clinical trial to test potential neuroprotection or myelin repair agents in patients with optic neuritis. To determine whether moderate-to-severe dysfunction in one or more visual measures at baseline or 1 month correlates with having major vision loss at 6 months.
