Cryptococcosis is a relatively common mycotic infection of the CNS caused by a ubiquitous saprophytic fungus. We present an unusual case of CNS cryptococcosis in an immunocompetent patient. Florid choroid plexitis resulted in the formation of intraventricular enhancing mass lesions that filled the ventricles and were hyperintense to associated periventricular edema on T2-weighted MR images. We also noted lesions corresponding to microcystic, dilated Virchow-Robin spaces in the basal ganglia that were characteristic of cryptococcal infection.

This is a case report of unusual case of choroid plexus cyst at the right foramen of Monro in the anterior third ventricle that caused unilateral obstructive hydrocephalus. The value of small-FOV thin-section MR imaging in the diagnosis of small lesions of the foramen of Monroe is demonstrated. The immunohistochemical findings in choroid epithelial cysts in comparison with those of other types of cysts at this location are discussed.

We report a case of multiple parietal cavernous malformations in a thirteen year old female who received cranial irradiation following incomplete resection of a choroid plexus papilloma. The treatment of a patient with a third-ventricular choroid plexus papilloma is described. This relatively unusual lesion was treated with stereotactic radiosurgery. Follow-up at 17 months demonstrates substantial reduction in tumor volume and an excellent clinical outcome. The treatment of this patient suggests that radiosurgery may be an effective alternative to open surgical resection.

To determine the incidence and significance of fetal choroid plexus cysts, a prospective study was carried out at Queen's Medical Centre, Nottingham. The incidence of cysts was found to be 0.42% and the size of cysts varied from 3 to 13 mm with a mean diameter of 6.2 mm. Choroid plexus cysts were associated with other fetal abnormalities in three cases, two of which were subsequently found to have a chromosomal abnormality, one Trisomy 18 and one Trisomy 21. A histopathological and immunofluorescence (IMF) study of the choroid plexus was performed in 8 cases of hepatosplenic schistosomiasis mansoni and in 20 cases which had resulted in death with no evidence of liver or brain involvement by schistosomiasis or other disease process, and in which renal disease and arterial hypertension were also excluded (control group). A prospective study was undertaken of 513 women between 15.6-24.1 weeks' gestation who had a level II ultrasound examination followed immediately by a genetic amniocentesis. The presence or absence of fetal choroid plexus cysts was noted and the results correlated with the fetal karyotype. Because of intermittent vomiting, abdominal pain, and diarrhea, the child was initially treated with intravenous rehydration, which aggravated the symptoms, and a bulging fontanel developed.
