A Typology of Moderator Practices and Community Guidelines in Online Mental Health Communities to Establish a Framework for Digital Safety: Systematized Review.

BACKGROUND: The rise of online mental health communities has reshaped the ways individuals seek and receive mental health support. Although online mental health communities (OMHCs) offer a valuable space for peer support, including through experience-sharing, they also present challenges, including moderation practices to cultivate supportive interactions and secure member safety. No comprehensive framework of moderation practices has been established. Developing such an understanding is important, as moderators play a central role in facilitating a sense of community and determining whether O

Community as the catalyst: A mixed-methods evaluation of a promotora-led wellness intervention to address mental health inequities in latine communities.

Latine communities face significant health and mental health inequities, which were exacerbated by the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic. Structural barriers, including economic factors and a lack of culturally responsive care, prevent these populations from accessing necessary treatment. This study evaluates the implementation of a community-based wellness intervention specifically designed to address the mental health needs of the Latine population through a culturally congruent framework. A total of 181 participants completed a pretest and 145 completed a posttest (80% retention

'It wasn't just me'. Community voices of hope in suicide prevention: mixed-methods study of a community-based crisis service.

BACKGROUND: National policy frameworks, including the UK Government's Suicide Prevention Strategy (2023-2028), emphasise person-centred, relational approaches that prioritise therapeutic engagement, collaborative safety planning and a flexible understanding of psychosocial risk. Peer support and lived experience initiatives are increasingly recognised as vital components of suicide prevention and recovery support. Community-based suicide crisis (CBSC) support, which emphasises rapid access, person-centred care and lived experience integration, was established to provide immediate support witho

Leading from behind the scenes: Community birth attendants, the unsung heroines of childhood vaccination in Ibadan urban slum communities.

Community birth attendants (CBAs) represent an insufficiently integrated resource in childhood immunization programs, particularly in urban slum communities where healthcare access remains challenging. Their role as birth attendants has been well documented, however, understanding their role in infant vaccination uptake is crucial for improving immunization uptake and child welfare. This study explored the knowledge of CBAs about infant immunization and assessed their roles in promoting vaccination uptake in urban slum communities of Ibadan, Nigeria. A narrative study design was employed acros

Integration of Behavioral Health by Community Health Workers Into a Lifestyle Intervention That Addresses Reduction of Risk for Cardiovascular Disease in Rural Communities.

PURPOSE AND OBJECTIVES: Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is the leading cause of death and disability in the US, with higher rates in rural areas. Although community health workers (CHWs) are effective in improving CVD outcomes, limited evidence exists on their role in addressing behavioral health needs within lifestyle change interventions. This evaluation assessed the feasibility of integrating behavioral health components focusing on psychologic distress, anxiety, and depression into the Colorado Heart Healthy Solutions program (CHHS) in rural communities by using 3 domains of the RE-AIM (Reach

Bridging Formal Health Services and Community Care for Improved Access to Culturally Appropriate End-of-Life Support for Migrant Communities.

The research aimed to understand the different cultural needs relating to death and dying of migrant populations in Western Sydney, Australia, and how end-of-life care can be provided in culturally safe ways which can, in turn, inform the policies that shape palliative care and bereavement service delivery. The mixed methods design for this study used an online quantitative survey using the Death Literacy Index, key informant qualitative interviews, culture-based community focus groups, and individual Photovoice interviews with carers. In all, 266 participants across the three largest migrant

Cancer early detection research priorities in some underrepresented communities: a commentary of the learnings from a community priority setting project.

BACKGROUND AND APPROACH: Priority setting partnerships for health and social care, which aim to unite patient, professional and other stakeholder priorities for research don't always accurately reflect the views of underrepresented communities. Few have utilised community engagement methods. We expanded on an existing James Lind Alliance Priority Setting Partnership that asked patient, public and professional stakeholders what their top 10 research priorities were in cancer early detection. We worked with community partners to design and deliver an accessible and equitable community-based prio

Strengthening the organizational health literacy capacity of community-based organizations to support COVID-19 precautionary behaviors in marginalized communities.

In March 2021, the Biden administration announced the Advancing Health Literacy to Enhance Equitable Community Responses to COVID-19 initiative that encouraged local and state governments, as well as other public entities to apply for funding to improve COVID-19 prevention behaviors and vaccination among underserved populations in the United States. The initiative specifically called for projects to adopt an approach that included health literacy as described in Healthy People 2030 and the National Standards for Culturally and Linguistically Appropriate Services in Health and Health Care (NCLA

Lived experience of cognitive-communication changes for people with acquired brain injury and familiar communication partners: A qualitative evidence synthesis.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: Cognitive-communication disorder (CCD) is common after acquired brain injury (ABI), reported in about two-thirds of people who sustain an injury. Quantitative studies have found that the disorder can negatively impact a person's ability to socially re-integrate into the community, return to work or education and achieve a good quality of life. However, little is known about how the disorder impacts people with ABI and the family. Therefore, the aim of this qualitative evidence synthesis was to provide a detailed exploration of the lived experience of CCD for people w

Natural rhythmic speech activates network reorganization with frontal community enhancing communication efficiency in patients with intrinsic brain tumor.

Brain tumors provide unique insights into brain plasticity due to their slow growth compared to acute cerebrovascular diseases. Despite relying on sophisticated functional networks, patients with brain tumors exhibit minimal deficits in higher language functions and demonstrate positive post-injury plasticity; however, the underlying neural mechanisms remain unclear. We utilized high-density electroencephalography to investigate language network plasticity in brain tumor patients without evident language deficits. Natural rhythmic sentences and non-rhythmic sentences with contrasting speech pr

Community Health Centers' Response to COVID-19 and Serving the Community: This Feeling of Never Being Enough and Never Doing Enough.

OBJECTIVE: Community health centers (CHCs) are a vital safety net for under-resourced and medically underserved patients. As few studies have explored how they implemented broad-based organizational changes throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, we aimed to qualitatively examine CHCs' longitudinal, comprehensive pandemic response through the perspectives of staff, administrators, and researchers working in CHCs. METHODS: 25 clinic leaders, staff, and researchers from three CHC networks and two academic medical centers in Northern California and the Central Valley of California participated in 18 f

BACKGROUND: The aim of this narrative review is to examine a WHO-compliant program that prepares Community Health Workers (CHWs) in low-resource environments. The intended outcome of the training is to enhance healthcare access and address health equity disparities. We examined the program's curriculum, instructional methods, and a complementary continuing medical education (CME) program designed to sustain CHWs' knowledge and skills. METHODOLOGY: We review, in detail, the CHW training program-its curriculum, delivery, and implementation-launched prior to the COVID-19 pandemic and continuing

Using community-based participatory research to contextualize Latino exposure to community violence: A mixed qualitative and spatial analysis approach.

While the relationship between community violence exposure and maladaptive outcomes has been established, the dynamic between violence exposure and resilience factors in youth is not well understood. The current study utilizes a community-based participatory research (CBPR) framework and employs a novel mixed-methods approach integrating quantitative geographic information systems (GIS) data and semi-structured qualitative focus groups to examine violence exposure, family functioning, and neighborhood characteristics, such as community assets, as experienced and reported by Latino adolescents.

Increasing self-efficacy and meeting the physical activity needs of community older adults through a community-based learning project.

Community-based learning (CBL) best serves students and community members when organizers reflect on the needs, concerns, and intentions of society. Worldwide, an area of focus within communities is their rapid expansion of older adults (OA) and a general increased population age. Within the U.S. it is estimated that a quarter of the population will be 65 or older by 2060. This concern is mirrored in the goals of government and professional organizations. For instance, some goals of Healthy People 2030 are to reduce the risk of diabetes, osteoporosis and fall-related injuries in OA. Increasing

Communication at work: A survey to explore the relationships between healthcare providers' communication competence and professional quality of life in neonatal care.

OBJECTIVE: Providing medical care to preterm infants can be rewarding yet also stressful for healthcare providers in the neonatal care unit (NICU). While the impact of provider-parent communication on parent-related stress and satisfaction is widely accepted, little is known about the provider perspective. Therefore, this study explores the relationships between neonatal care providers' communicative competence and their professional quality of life and job satisfaction. METHODS: Using the NICU Communication Framework, we conducted a cross-sectional survey among N = 300 Dutch pediatricians‑ne
