Bacteriological findings obtained by the Cryo-method of cervical smears before and after the treatment of cervicitis and ectopia in the vaginal part of the uterine cervix of 64 women revealed certain essential changes. Before the Cryo-therapy, pathogenic microorganisms were verified in 49 patients (76.56%), while saprophytic flora was isolated from 15 patients (23.45%). Intercostal block by a freezing technique was compared with blockade by local anaesthetics or no blockade as a method of treating post-thoracotomy pain. The 15 patients who received cryotherapy had significantly less postoperative pain than the 9 patients whose nerves were blocked by local anaesthetics or who did not receive any nerve block. The interruption of nerve function produced by cryotherapy was temporary (not more than 30 days), and there were no adverse sequelae.

40 eyes with retinal detachment were immobilized by traction sutures under the inferior and medial rectus muscles in order to study the rate of "spontaneous" reattachment following such fixation. There was an almost complete reattachment in 45% of cases, and partial reattachment (at least half of the detached area) in 40%. Little or no reattachment was observed in 15% of cases. Reattachment of the retina prior to the operation is considered advantageous for the success of surgery.
