Minor or genetically isolated populations like Turkish-Cypriots (TC) are usually challenging to diagnose and treat for uncommon genetic diseases. TC may exhibit several patterns of unusual genetic disorders based on their unique historical and demographic conditions. The objective of the current study is to identify and investigate the rarest genetic disorders in TC patients. Therefore, between 2019 and 2025, clinical and genetic data, which were confirmed by gene panels and exome sequencing, from 150 TC patients were retrospectively analysed in our clinic. Also, inheritance models and variant

Cardiac channelopathies are inherited arrhythmias that can lead to sudden cardiac death. Despite Africa's extensive genomic diversity, African and African-descent populations remain underrepresented in genetic research, creating gaps in variant interpretation and clinical care. This scoping review aims to map the extent, range, and nature of genetic research on cardiac channelopathies in these populations and to identify key geographic, thematic, and methodological gaps. Using the Joanna Briggs Institute scoping review methodology and the Population-Concept-Context framework, systematic search

Background: Stress-related disorders, including PTSD, acute stress disorders, adjustment disorder, and attachment disorders, arise from complex interactions between genetic susceptibility and environmental stressors. While early environmental factors play a central role in the development of these disorders, there is growing evidence that genetic predisposition also contributes to individual differences in vulnerability and resilience. This narrative review examines current evidence on genetic predisposition and resilience mechanisms in stress-related psychopathology during developmental age.

Gilbert syndrome (GS) is a genetic disorder caused by mutations in the UGT1A1 gene. It is characterized by intermittent non-hemolytic unconjugated hyperbilirubinemia. Herein, we report a patient with GS who presented with chronic hyperbilirubinemia and no other abnormal manifestations. Heterozygous c.1047_1047delG, c.-3279 T>G, and c.-41_-40dupTA mutations were identified in his UGT1A1 gene by using Sanger sequencing. The novel c.1047_1047delG variant was classified as a pathogenic mutation. These findings not only provide a basis for the genetic diagnosis of this GS patient but also expand th

Deciphering the underlying genetic basis behind pancreatic cancer (PC) and its associated multimorbidities will enhance our knowledge toward PC control. The study investigated the common genetic background of PC and different morbidities through a computational approach and further evaluated the less explored association between PC and autoimmune diseases (AIDs) through an epidemiological analysis. Gene-disease associations (GDAs) of 26 morbidities of interest and PC were obtained using the DisGeNET public discovery platform. The association between AIDs and PC pointed by the computational ana

INTRODUCTION: Primary ciliary dyskinesia (PCD) is a rare genetically heterogenous condition. Mutations in DNAH5 or DNAI1 genes can be found in about a third of the patients with PCD. Increased occurrence of mutations was described in several exons of these long genes. The objective of the study was to test the sensitivity of sequencing of selected 13 exons (as compared to costly sequencing of all 100 exons of the two genes), and to determine the prevalence of the DNAH5 or DNAI1 mutations in the Czech PCD database.
METHODS: The Czech national PCD database has identified 31 pediatric patients,

Compared to traditional morphological identification, DNA barcoding-molecular identification based on sequencing of a segment of mitochondrial cytochrome c oxidase subunit I (COI)-provides a shortcut to authenticating chelonian identifications. Here, we selected 63 government-seized chelonian specimens deposited at Taipei Zoo for DNA barcoding analysis. DNA barcoding and subsequent phylogenetic analysis successfully authenticated 36 chelonian species, including five that are listed in CITES Appendix I. Approximately 90% (57/63) of the specimens were successfully authenticated by our molecular

The macula is a unique structure in higher primates, where cone and rod photoreceptors show highest density in the fovea and the surrounding area, respectively. The hereditary macular dystrophies represent a heterozygous group of rare disorders characterized by central visual loss and atrophy of the macula and surrounding retina. Here we report an atypical absence of ON-type bipolar cell response in a Japanese patient with autosomal dominant macular dystrophy (adMD). To identify a causal genetic mutation for the adMD, we performed whole-exome sequencing (WES) on four affected and four-non affe

Rett syndrome (RTT) is an X-linked progressive neurodevelopmental disorder that primarily affects females. Mutations in the MECP2 gene have been attributed as the major genetic cause of RTT. Recently, mutations in CDKL5 and FOXG1 genes have also been suggested to give rise to RTT, although subsequent more extensive studies suggest that diseases resulting from mutations in these two genes should be considered as distinct clinical entities. While the genetic basis for the RTT has been recognized, so far there is no effective cure for the disease and the treatments available are mainly aimed at a

Latin Americans are underrepresented in genetic studies, increasing disparities in personalized genomic medicine. Despite available genetic data from thousands of Latin Americans, accessing and navigating the bureaucratic hurdles for consent or access remains challenging. To address this, we introduce the Genetics of Latin American Diversity (GLAD) Project, compiling genome-wide information from 53,738 Latin Americans across 39 studies representing 46 geographical regions. Through GLAD, we identified heterogeneous ancestry composition and recent gene flow across the Americas. Additionally, we
