BACKGROUND: Aflatoxins (AFs) are a group of potent mycotoxins that frequently pollute agro-products and animal feeds. For complex reasons, the regulatory limits of AFs differ from nation to nation. Investigation of an outbreak of multiresistant Pseudomonas aeruginosa urinary tract infections within our hospital identified the urodynamic laboratory as the point source. Disinfection procedures were inadequate, and transducers designated for single-patient use were used repeatedly and subsequently became contaminated. Three experiments were done to determine the effects of giving White Leghorn chickens, broiler chickens, and turkey poults diets that contained white winter or spring wheat contaminated with 4-deoxynivalenol (DON). BACKGROUND: Routine water monitoring in a haemodialysis centre revealed high trichloroethylene (TCE) concentrations. The aim of this study is to describe the measures adopted after organic contamination of dialysis water in order to avoid the possibility of patient exposure. We also carried out in vitro experiments to evaluate the accumulation of TCE in various devices normally used in a dialysis water treatment system (DWTS).
