Chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) and mantle cell lymphoma (MCL) are 2 well-defined entities that diverge in their basic pathogenic mechanisms and clinical evolution but they share epidemiological characteristics, cells of origin, molecular alterations, and clinical features that differ from other lymphoid neoplasms. CLL and MCL are classically considered indolent and aggressive neoplasms, respectively. However, the clinical evolution of both tumors is very heterogeneous, with subsets of patients having stable disease for a long time whereas others require immediate intervention. Both CLL and

Gadolinium-based contrast agents (GBCAs) are indispensable tools in magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), yet their clinical use is limited by non-specific tissue accumulation, low molecular specificity, and safety concerns. Protein and peptide scaffolds provide a promising alternative because they can bind metal ions with high selectivity and enable precise molecular targeting. However, identifying short peptide motifs with optimal gadolinium (Gd3+) coordination and high relaxivity remains a major challenge. Here, we used a machine-learning-driven peptide evolution platform, the Protein Optimizat

The classical anatomist Drew Noden spearheaded craniofacial research, laying the foundation for our modern molecular understanding of development, evolution, and disorders of the craniofacial skeleton. His work revealed the origin of cephalic musculature and the role of cranial neural crest (CNC) in early formation and patterning of the head musculoskeletal structures. Much of modern cranial tendon research advances a foundation of knowledge that Noden built using classical quail-chick transplantation experiments. This elegant avian chimeric system involves grafting of donor quail cells into h

The molecular prevalence of human adenoviruses (HAdVs) in Datong city and molecular evolution of HAdV-C species is still obscure. Here, we explored the molecular prevalence of HAdVs by simultaneous sequencing of hexon and fiber. Then, the penton gene fragments of HAdV-C species were determined by sequencing. Finally, genomic and proteotyping analysis were performed for exploration of molecular evolution of unique HAdV-6. Our results showed that dominant molecular types of HAdVs were HAdV-3, HAdV-2, and HAdV-1 based on the hexon and fiber genotype. Among H2F2 isolates, P1H2F2 was most common, f

This Letter describes Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy evidence for the evolution of conformational order and coverage during the formation of n-alkanethiol monolayers on microdroplets of mercury from the solution phase. At the highest coverages obtained by self-assembly, the monolayer is characterized by predominantly all-trans conformational order. For partial monolayers obtained at arbitrarily quenched incubation periods, we find a continuous evolution of the chain conformational order with monolayer coverage. Analyzing these results in light of previously reported models from X-ray

We propose a scenario for the dynamic co-evolution of peptides and energy on the primitive Earth. From a multi component system consisting of hydrogen cyanide, several carbonyl compounds, ammonia, alkyl amine, carbonic anhydride, borate and isocyanic acid, we show that the reversibility of this system leads to several intermediate nitriles, that irreversibly evolve to alpha-amino acids and N-carbamoyl amino acids via selective catalytic processes. On the primitive Earth these N-carbamoyl amino acids combined with energetic molecules (NOx) may have been the core of a molecular engine producing

Recent monkeypox (MPX) outbreaks are major ones in non-endemic countries. The present study analyzed molecular phylogenetics, divergence, epidemiology, the geographical distribution, entropy diversity of genome, mutational landscape, and evolution of the monkeypox virus (MPXV) genome and the current MPXV is entitled "hMPXV1." We used different in-silico and statistical methods to study our objectives. The developed phylogram from molecular phylogenetics describes the origin and evolution of hMPXV1 of A, A.1, A.1.1, A.2, and B.1 lineages. The microevolution of B.1 lineage shows its evolution fr

Deep vein thrombosis (DVT) has an estimated annual incidence of 0.07/10,000 children. Early diagnosis suspicion in the emergency department is important because it is a serious disease that, if untreated, can lead to a postthrombotic disease or a pulmonary thromboembolism. We report 2 cases of DVT whose diagnosis was made in the pediatric emergency department. Case 1 is a 9-year-old boy, evaluated with corticodependent nephrotic syndrome, who presented with pain in the lower left limb and increase in size of 48 hours' evolution suggestive of DVT. The elevation of D-dimer in the blood analysis

Controlling the morphology evolution of blade-coated bulk-heterojunction active layers is crucial for achieving high-efficiency organic solar cells (OSCs), yet remains challenging because rapid solvent evaporation and unbalanced donor-acceptor aggregation often lead to poorly regulated phase separation and disordered molecular packing. Herein, a vaporization-guided morphology regulation strategy is developed by introducing 1,4-diiodobenzene (DIB) as a volatile solid additive into a blade-coated PM6:L8-BO device. Optical analysis reveals that an appropriate amount of DIB mainly regulates the ac

Chromosome evolution is one of the major mechanisms of disease progression and resistance in chronic myeloid leukemia (CML) patients. However, the clinical significance of chromosomal evolution in the Philadelphia (Ph)-negative clone during therapy is not fully understood. We evaluated 94 CML patients in the chronic phase of CML during treatment of the disease. Six of them had Ph-negative chromosome abnormalities during treatment. Four patients with a single abnormality and a good molecular response showed no obvious complications from the chromosomal changes, while two other patients who had

Atherosclerosis is a leading issue in mortality and morbidity in the civilized world. A number of hypotheses for atherogenesis indicate the complexity of initiation and development of this multifactorial disease. Morphologic types of lesions have long since been studied in order to understand plaque evolution and determinants of plaque complication, a frequent cause of acute ischemic accidents. Chemical and pathophysiological studies defined the wide spectrum of molecular interactions between cellular elements of atherosclerotic lesions. Recently, molecular biologic investigations provide a de

Myeloid neoplasms (MN) undergo dynamic clinical, morphologic, and molecular evolution over time. Although transformation to acute myeloid leukemia (AML) is the most widely recognized form of progression, MN may evolve through diverse, less well-recognized patterns. The European Bone Marrow Working Group dedicated a workshop at the XVII International Bone Marrow Course and Workshop in Salzburg, Austria, in 2025 to unusual patterns of MN evolution and progression other than acute leukemia. The submitted cases illustrate the remarkable phenotypic and genetic plasticity of MN. Recurrent patterns i

Ticks are among the primary vectors of infectious agents of medical and veterinary importance, second only to mosquitoes in the number of pathogens transmitted to humans. These arthropods are capable of transmitting a wide diversity of microorganisms, including protozoa, bacteria, and viruses. Notable among tick-borne viruses are those associated with viral encephalitis, which cause severe acute and chronic neurological infections in humans. This study aimed to characterize the RNA virome of an Amblyomma dissimile specimen collected from a Boa constrictor rescued in the municipality of Ananind

BACKGROUND: The Neotropical armored catfish genus Harttia is an exceptional model for studying sex chromosome evolution, as it harbors the highest diversity of multiple sex chromosome systems known among fishes. However, the evolutionary history of these systems and their contribution to lineage diversification remain unresolved. We generated genome-wide DArTseq data for 17 Harttia species to investigate the origins of sex chromosome turnover, reconstruct phylogenetic and biogeographic history, identify sex-linked markers, and test whether multiple sex chromosomes are associated with increased

Giant viruses in the phylum Nucleocytoviricota possess exceptionally large and mosaic genomes, yet the mechanisms underlying their remarkable plasticity remain poorly understood. Genomic islands are dynamic genomic regions that are major drivers of diversification and adaptation in bacteria. However, their contribution to giant virus evolution remains largely unexplored. Here, we characterize the genomic island landscape of giant viruses using 369 high-quality genomes spanning cultured isolates and long-read metagenome-assembled genomes. We identify 307 genomic islands across >50% of the genom

The products of isocyanide synthase (ICS) biosynthetic gene clusters (BGCs) have been implicated in microbial interactions, pathogenesis, and metal homeostasis. While several ICS BGCs have been described as mediating metal-associated ecologies, the evolutionary history of these clusters is unexplored among Lecanoromycetes, a clade comprised predominantly of symbiotic, lichen-forming fungi (LFF), which are known to thrive in both metal-contaminated and scarce environments. Analyzing nearly 4,000 fungal genomes, including 90 Lecanoromycetes, we identified a significant 3-fold enrichment of ICS-e

The present essay attempts to stimulate interest and provide insight into the dynamics of internal conflicts, kin selection, and ecological interactions in multicellular, metabolically gifted microorganisms and how these processes may affect biosynthetic gene cluster (BGC) diversity. The multicellular antibiotic-producing soil bacterium Streptomyces provides a useful model for exploring how internal conflicts emerge and are resolved in biology. These organisms must balance two resource-intensive processes that can create internal conflicts-natural product biosynthesis and sporulation. In Strep

SARS-CoV-2 evolution is typically characterized by strong mutational biases, with C → G transversions being consistently rare. This study investigates a unique violation of this constraint specifically within the Delta variant spike protein. By analyzing nucleotide substitution spectra from GenBank sequences, we compared C → G transversion frequencies across early variants, Omicron, and Delta lineages, including both inter-lineage and intra-lineage diversification. Statistical validation using Fisher's exact tests revealed a significant enrichment of C → G substitutions in the Delta spike (e.g

BACKGROUND: Gastrochilus (Orchidaceae) is a genus of epiphytic orchids valued for horticultural and medicinal purposes. However, the structural and evolutionary features of its plastid genomes have not been systematically examined. Here, we characterize the complete plastid genomes of 23 Gastrochilus species, elucidating structural features and key variations to provide new insights into their evolutionary significance.
RESULTS: The plastid genomes showed a typical quadripartite structure, ranging from 146,183 to 148,666 bp in length. Each genome encodes 120 genes, comprising 74 protein-codin
