Will the untreated ulnar styloid fracture influence the outcome of unstable distal radial fracture treated with external fixation when the distal radioulnar joint is stable.

BACKGROUND: The ulnar styloid is an important supportive structure for the triangular fibrocartilage complex. However, it remains inconclusive whether or not a fractured ulnar styloid should be fixed in an unstable distal radius fracture (DRF) with a stable distal radioulnar joint (DRUJ). The purpose of this study is to evaluate the effect of an untreated ulnar styloid fracture on the outcome of unstable DRF treated with transarticular external fixation when the DRUJ is stable. METHODS: 106 patients with an unstable DRF and a stable DRUJ were included in this study following external fixation…

[Distal intra-articular resection of the calcaneus in the treatment of severe or recurrent congenital clubfoot].

INTRODUCTION: Secondary adaptive bone changes and joint distorsions in clubfoot may present a barrier to adequate correction of the deformit … of a joint may permit normal joint function to be retained. The resected cartilage is replaced by a fibrocartilage that resembles the original articular cartilage, provided the resected defect is deep enough to allow vascularization from the underlying bone. CONCLUSION: The success of this method depends on an accurate surgical technique, as described by its pr …

Early diagnosis of degenerative changes in the articular/fibrocartilaginous disc of the temporomandibular joint in patients with temporomandibular disorders using delayed gadolinium-enhanced MRI at 3 Tesla - preliminary results.

BACKGROUND: Delayed gadolinium enhanced MRI of cartilage (dGEMRIC) is a quantitative method for assessment of glycosaminoglycan content in connective tissues. We hypothesize that the early diagnosis of degenerative changes in the temporomandibular joint could be diagnosed using dGEMRIC technique. PURPOSE: To test the compositional MRI technique, dGEMRIC, at 3 Tesla to diagnosis early the degenerative changes in the fibrocartilaginous disc of the temporomandibular joint (TMJ) in patients with temporomandibular disorders (TMD) and to compare the dGEMRIC index of patients to the healthy voluntee

Comparative Study of Immobilization Protocols after Arthroscopic Suture of Peripheral and Foveal TFCC Injuries: A Cohort Study of 387 Patients.

INTRODUCTION: The triangular fibrocartilage complex (TFCC) is the main stabilizer of the distal radio-ulnar joint. There is a wide disparity in postoperative immobilization after arthroscopic suturing of the TFCC. Moreover, there are no studies focused specifically on the subject. HYPOTHESIS: Because of its effect on pronosupination, we can ask ourselves whether immobilization of the elbow (during part or all of the immobilization) after arthroscopic suture of the TFCC is necessary. MATERIALS AND METHODS: We performed a single-center, retrospective, comparative study with an inclusion period…

Management of Patellar Tendinopathy.

Patellar tendinopathy is a common pathology typically seen in athletes involved in repetitive explosive jumping and running activities. Also … injury to the tendon fibers, which leads to mucoid degeneration, necrosis, and loss of transitional fibrocartilage. When partial tendon tears do occur, the typical location is posteromedially adjacent to the patella. Treatment involves a stepwise approach starting with nonoperative means, including activity modification, nonsteroidal anti-inflammatories, and phy …

Outcome in TFCC repair using micro anchor and trans‑osseous technique.

The triangular fibrocartilage complex (TFCC) is an intrinsic stabiliser of the distal radioulnar joint (DRUJ), which serves an important role in wrist movement, forearm rotation and grip strength. A stable DRUJ is a key requirement for pain-free movement of the wrist. TFCC tears are a common ulnar-sided wrist pain associated with decreased grip strength and impaired function. TFCC tears are classified according to the location and cause. The Palmer classification delineates tears into traumatic type 1 and degenerative type 2. The present study investigated the clinical outcomes of using micro …

The use of methylmethacrylate in the fixation of mandibular fractures in dogs. Experimental results.

The efficacy of self-curing acrylic resin in the fixation of fractured mandibles was studied in eight adult mongrel dogs. Three dogs were killed at 1 month, two at 3 months, and three at 6 months after insertion of the resin. Roentgenograms taken after operation and after the dogs had been put to death demonstrated satisfactory fracture reduction and bony healing. The retentive grooves appeared larger on the postmortem roentgenograms, apparently from fibrous tissue that formed between the acrylic resin and the bone. Sections through the groove and fracture site did not show any fibrocartilage …

Disulfidptosis in osteoarthritis: Role of SLC2A3 downregulation and potential therapeutic implications.

OBJECTIVE: Disulfidptosis is a newly recognized form of regulated cell death characterized by actin cytoskeleton collapse under disulfide st … SLC2A3, PDLIM1, and SLC3A2, which were found to be downregulated in OA tissues, particularly in pre-fibrocartilage chondrocyte subtypes. Our functional analysis indicated that these genes were enriched in pathways associated with cytoskeleton organization and the oxidative stress response. Furthermore, machine learning models demonstrated that these genes have s …

The TFCC table lift test: A clinical tool for detecting palmer 1B TFCC lesions.

BACKGROUND: Ulnar-sided wrist pain, frequently linked to triangular fibrocartilage complex (TFCC) injuries, poses a diagnostic challenge due to the limited sensitivity and specificity of standard clinical tests. Although wrist arthroscopy remains the diagnostic gold standard, a reliable clinical tool is needed to better identify peripheral TFCC lesions (Palmer 1B). This study introduces and validates the "TFCC Table Lift Test" (TTL test), a novel exam aimed at improving clinical detection of Palmer 1B TFCC injuries. The primary goal was to correlate TTL test scores with arthroscopic findings, …

Effect of Bone Morphogenetic Protein-2 Combined With Microfracture for Osteochondral Defect of the Talus in a Rabbit Model.

BACKGROUND: Osteochondral defects of the talus can be effectively treated using microfracture, which is technically safe, accessible, and affordable. However, fibrous tissue and fibrocartilage comprise the majority of tissue repairs resulting from these procedures. These tissue types lack the mechanical characteristics of native hyaline cartilage and might significantly contribute to the decline in long-term outcomes. Recombinant human-bone morphogenetic protein-2 (rhBMP-2) has been shown to promote matrix synthesis and increase cartilage formation, thus enhancing chondrogenesis in vitro. PUR…
