We report a case of pulmonary atresia with intact ventricular septum and aortic valve stenosis in a neonate. This combination is extremely rare. Cardiac catheterization was performed at 2 days of age, which confirmed the prenatal echocardiographic diagnosis and identified associated moderate aortic valve stenosis. Soon after the examination, an urgent surgical intervention was required due to uncontrollable circulatory instability. The baby underwent a successful Fontan-type repair achieved by surgical management only.

Plastic bronchitis is potentially a life-threatening complication of long-standing surgically palliated single ventricle congenital heart disease. We report the use of an absorbable pulmonary artery band to limit postoperative cyanosis due to severe pulmonary arteriovenous fistulae in a 5-year-old girl with post-Fontan palliation takedown to a two-ventricle repair. At 1-year postoperatively, her fistulae had nearly resolved with no distortion of her pulmonary artery anatomy. This case demonstrates a novel approach to limiting cyanosis while pulmonary arteriovenous fistulae resolved after redirection of hepatic blood flow to the affected lung.

BACKGROUND: This study aimed to assess the impact of caloric intake and weight-for-age-Z-score after the Norwood procedure on the outcome of bidirectional cavopulmonary shunt.
METHODS: A total of 153 neonates who underwent the Norwood procedure between 2012 and 2020 were surveyed. Postoperative daily caloric intake and weight-for-age-Z-score up to five months were calculated, and their impact on outcome after bidirectional cavopulmonary shunt was analysed.
