We present the therapeutic options and functional results in patients with plateau iris (syndrome or configuration) in consecutive case series. OBJECTIVE: To determine frequencies of various types of glaucoma in an urban community of Congo.
METHODS: The records of 176 patients with the diagnosis of glaucoma examined between 1991 and 1995 at a non-university center were reviewed. A complete ophthalmological examination was performed in each patient including best visual acuity, refraction, slit-lamp examination, ophthalmology and intraocular pressure measurements. Gonioscopy and visual field examination were performed when needed.

Glaucoma secondary to angle closure is a not infrequent complication of cataract extraction. The incidence may be reduced by preventing or accurately treating those conditions causing shallowing of the anterior chamber in the postoperative period. Once established, however, management follows the principles used in managing chronic simple glaucoma.

A pilot study evaluated both the safety and the effect on intraocular pressure control of argon laser trabeculoplasty (ALT) in eyes with secondary forms of open-angle glaucoma. All patients included in this study had poor IOP control and were considered surgical candidates. INTRODUCTION: Primary angle-closure glaucoma (PACG) is the leading cause of blindness in East Asia. The disease can be classified into primary angle-closure suspect, primary angle closure (PAC), and PACG. Pupil-block, anterior nonpupil-block (plateau iris and peripheral iris crowding), lens related and retrolenticular mechanisms have been suggested as the four main mechanisms of angle closure.
