Bridging the academic-clinical gap: a comparative cross-sectional analysis of self-reported evidence-based practice engagement and associated research activity between fourth-year nursing students and interns.

BACKGROUND: Evidence-based practice (EBP) is a core competency in contemporary nursing; however, the academic-to-clinical transition represents a critical period during which self-reported EBP engagement and associated research activity may diverge. Limited evidence exists on how these characteristics differ between senior nursing students and clinical interns within the same single-institution educational context. METHODS: A comparative cross-sectional, between-group study was conducted among 260 undergraduate nursing learners at Northern Border University, Saudi Arabia, comprising 118 fourt

[Practice guideline for patients with ankylosing spondylitis/spondyloarthritis].

In recent years, the clinical experts consensuses or guidelines of ankylosing spondylitis (AS)/spondyloarthritis (SpA) have been constantly updated, but to better understand and practice, patient self-participation management is one of the key points to improve the level of diagnosis and treatment. Through questionnaire survey of these patients, we screened out the most concerned issues, and established the AS/SpA patient practice guideline working group with multidisciplinary physicians and patients. Fifteen opinions, as the AS/SpA patient practice guidelines, are proposed in accordance with

Hypochondriacal concerns and somatic symptoms in patients with chronic airflow obstruction.

In order to explore hypochondriacal concerns in patients with Chronic Airflow Obstruction (CAO) the authors administered the Illness Attitude Scales and the somatization, anxiety, depression and anger-hostility scales of the Hopkins Symptom Checklist to 50 patients with CAO and to matched family practice patients. Somatic symptoms were significantly correlated with fears of disease and hypochondriacal concerns in family practice patients, but were unrelated in CAO. Patients with CAO, although more anxious, depressed and with more severe somatic symptoms than family practice patients, had fewer

Random practice enhances 24-h motor skill retention across levels of baseline task performance.

BACKGROUND: Random practice (RP) impairs acquisition performance but often enhances retention relative to blocked practice (BP), a pattern known as the contextual interference (CI) effect. Whether this benefit varies with baseline task performance remains unclear. OBJECTIVE: To examine whether baseline performance moderates the retention benefit of RP. METHODS: We conducted a secondary analysis of 70 right-handed participants who practiced a discrete sequence production (DSP) task under RP (n = 35) or BP (n = 35). Participants were classified within each practice group as having higher or lo

When Food Safety Goes Viral: The Influence of the Documentary Poisoned on Trust in Food Supply Chain Actors and Food Risk Perceptions Among Young Adult College Students in Indiana.

As foodborne illnesses pose a significant public health concern in the United States, the rise of streaming platforms broadens audiences' exposure to food safety documentary films. This investigation examines how the documentary Poisoned: The Dirty Truth About Your Food shapes young adults' perceptions, attitudes, and trust in the food supply chain among undergraduate students at one university in Indiana enrolled in food science (Study 1, n = 19) and nonfood science programs (Study 2, n = 59). An explanatory mixed-methods design combined surveys at three time points with a focus group discuss

Antenatal care utilisation among pregnant adolescents in urban Ghana: a qualitative study of individual, family and health system influences.

BACKGROUND: Adolescent pregnancy remains an important public health concern in Ghana and other low- and middle-income settings. Pregnant adolescents often initiate antenatal care later than recommended or attend irregularly, increasing the risk of adverse maternal and newborn outcomes. While determinants of antenatal care use have been widely studied, less is known about how individual, family, and health system factors interact to shape adolescents' care seeking experiences. This study explored influences on antenatal care utilisation among pregnant adolescents in an urban municipality in sou

Primary caregivers' practices and perceptions on antibiotic use and resistance: a one health qualitative study in rural South India.

OBJECTIVES: Antimicrobial resistance is a growing global public health threat driven by interactions between human, animal and environmental factors. This study explored community-level knowledge, attitudes and practices related to antibiotic use and resistance among caregivers of children in rural South India using a One Health perspective. DESIGN: Qualitative study using focus group discussions and thematic analysis.

Perspectives of stroke survivors and informal caregivers on home-based mental practice for upper limb recovery after stroke: a qualitative co-design study.

In this qualitative study, we explored the views of stroke survivors and informal caregivers regarding three types of mental practice for upper limb recovery: (1) action observation (AO); (2) motor imagery (MI); and (3) combined action observation and motor imagery (AO + MI). Semi-structured interviews and focus groups were conducted between December 2021 and October 2022 with 23 participants (13 caregivers and 10 stroke survivors).Thematic analysis generated three higher-order themes: (1) Mental practice: understanding and recent experience. Although comprehension of AO, MI, and AO + MI varie

"A tool to support, not replace": patient and general practitioner perceptions of digital decision support tools for back pain.

BACKGROUND: Back pain is the leading musculoskeletal reason for visits in general practice. Time constraints on consultations affect diagnostic decisions and the delivery of evidence-based care. This study explored patient and general practitioner (GP) perspectives on digital tools to support decision-making in back pain management. METHODS: We conducted separate focus groups between June and August 2024 with people experiencing back pain and with registered Australian GPs. We analyzed data using thematic analysis with an inductive approach. RESULTS: We interviewed 23 participants: 13 with b
