Reactive perforating collagenosis. Report of 3 cases.

3 cases of reactive perforating collagenosis in siblings are reported which were characterized clinically by typical umbilicated papules at sites exposed to traumatism. The histopathological feature is characterized by a cup-shaped depression of the epidermis together with extrusion of collagen fibers at its base.

[Acute febrile neutrophilic dermatosis--Sweet syndrome].

Since 1964 there are 65 women and 13 men with the typical features of Sweet syndrome reported. An additional case in a 40 year old man is the purpose of this review of the literature. The Sweet syndrome is mainly observed in the fourth and fifth decade of life and begins with typical symptoms of high temperatures, peripheral leucocytosis, with eminent red plaques showing bumpy surface. The histologic picture is not specific but characteristic. The onset of cutaneous eruption is preceded about 10 days by symptoms of influenza and infections of the upper respiratory tract. Sites of predilection

Persistent pigmented purpuric eruption associated with mycosis fungoides: a case report and review of the literature.

A purpuric eruption may be an unusual early manifestation of mycosis fungoides (MF). On the other hand, persistent pigmented purpuric dermatoses (PPPD) may, occasionally, evolve to cutaneous T-cell lymphoma. Coexistence of these two conditions has been reported, but it is extremely rare. We present the case of an elderly woman with a long-standing pruritic, pigmented purpuric eruption. On 1-year follow-up, histological features suggesting early MF were observed and molecular analysis of the rearrangement of T-cell receptor genes revealed clonality. Our patient may represent a case of PPPD evol

Incontinence-Associated Dermatitis: Pathogenesis, Contributing Factors, Prevention and Management Options.

Incontinence-associated dermatitis (IAD) is a common type of irritant contact dermatitis, seen in patients with urinary or faecal incontinence. Mechanical factors such as traumata and friction may aggravate the lesions. The fragile skin in elderly patients is more prone to developing IAD. The clinical picture of IAD consists of persistent redness on the one hand and skin loss on the other. Both categories may be associated with clinical signs of major colonisation or infection. It is important to distinguish IAD from pressure ulcers and other dermatoses in the genital region. Due to the lack o

Leukemic vasculitis: an unusual manifestation of leukemia cutis.

Leukemia cutis is frequently observed as papules, nodules, and plaques, but unusual clinical manifestations rarely occur. We report a 64-year-old woman with acute myeloid leukemia M1 who presented with erythematous papules and vesiculobullous lesions limited to the arms, hands, and neck in addition to purpuric papules on the legs. Because of the symmetric distal involvement and vesiculobullous nature of the skin lesions, the differential diagnosis included erythema multiforme and vasculitis. However, a skin biopsy specimen revealed infiltration with a striking predominance of blast cells in th

[Retrospective, descriptive, observational study of treatment of multiple actinic keratoses with topical methyl aminolevulinate and red light: results in clinical practice and correlation with fluorescence imaging].

BACKGROUND: Actinic keratosis (AK) is one of the most common skin diseases seen in clinical practice. In the last 5 years, several studies assessing the efficacy of photodynamic therapy in the treatment of multiple AKs have been published. OBJECTIVE: We aimed to assess the clinical outcomes of photodynamic therapy in patients with multiple AKs and the correlation of those outcomes with fluorescence imaging. MATERIAL AND METHODS: In this retrospective, descriptive, observational study of 57 patients treated in our hospital with photodynamic therapy for multiple AKs, we recorded age, sex, and

Vaccines in Dermatology-Present and Future: A Review.

Dermatological vaccines have emerged as critical tools in preventing and managing a wide spectrum of skin conditions ranging from infectious diseases to malignancies. By synthesizing evidence from existing literature, this review aims to comprehensively evaluate the efficacy, safety, and immunogenicity of vaccines used in dermatology, including both approved vaccines and those currently being researched. Vaccines discussed in this paper include those targeting dermatoses and malignancies (e.g., acne vulgaris, atopic dermatitis, and melanoma); infectious diseases (e.g., human papillomavirus (HP

[Occupational dermatoses: clinical picture, noxious compounds, prevention].

Various occupational substances may cause dermatological lesions. Toxic, toxic-degenerative and allergic eczemas have to be mentioned on the first hand. The prevention of dermatoses ranges among the most important tasks of occupational medicine. The first measure should be a minimization of the direct skin contact with dermatotoxic substances. Here, adequate cleaning products play an important part. --When working with potentially toxic substances, the use of protective devices must be recommended. There are two possibilities: wearing gloves or application of protective ointments. In both inst

Studies on two siblings with recessive dystrophic epidermolysis bullosa (Hallopeau-Siemens) and the plasminogen activator and its inhibitor in the lesion.

Activities of plasminogen activators (PA) and their inhibitors were studied in the bullous lesions of 2 siblings with recessive dystrophic epidermolysis bullosa (RDEB). The hematological findings of the patients revealed hyperfibrinogenemia, hyper-gamma-globulinemia and marked thrombocytosis. The immunofluorescent studies showed strong deposits of plasminogen, fibrin-degenerative products and alpha 1-antitrypsin around the blister lesions. On the other hand, alpha 2-macroglobulin (alpha 2-M) was sparsely deposited. The levels of alpha 2-M in the blister fluid of the patients were also decrease

Plasma anaphylatoxin concentrations in inflammatory skin diseases.

To study the possible involvement of the complement system in inflammatory skin disorders, we measured the concentrations of C3a and C4a anaphylatoxins in the peripheral blood of 148 patients with various inflammatory skin disorders and 48 healthy control subjects by radioimmunoassay. Significant increases in mean levels of both C3a and C4a anaphylatoxins were found in 59 patients with psoriasis. Remarkable increases in both C3a and C4a anaphylatoxins were also noted in some patients with leukocytoclastic vasculitis, urticarial vasculitis or unspecified toxic erythema. On the other hand, eleva

[Onychomadesis associated with mouth, hand and foot disease].

Onychomadesis is the spontaneous, complete shedding of the nail from its proximal side, without pain or inflammation, following nail matrix arrest. This disorder is uncommon in children and it can occur in fingernails, toenails or both. It may be secondary to systemic disorders, Kawasaki disease, bullous dermatoses, drugs, paronychia, stress and radiotherapy. Since 2000, Hand, Foot, and Mouth Disease (HFMD) has been described as a cause of onychomadesis, and has been associated with outbreaks of this condition in different regions of the world. HFMD is an infection characterized by vesicular a

The effectiveness of 1,064-nm long-pulsed Nd:YAG laser in the treatment of severe onychomycosis.

INTRODUCTION: Severe onychomycosis in the elderly is a common condition and generally difficult to treat. Long-pulsed Nd:YAG (LPNY) laser has been found to be useful in the treatment of onychomycosis. We sought to evaluate the effectiveness of 1,064-nm LPNY laser in the treatment of severe onychomycosis. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Forty nails in 13 patients with severe onychomycosis were divided into two groups. Each group received eight treatment sessions at one-week intervals with 1,064-nm LPNY laser. Parameters for group A were 0.3 ms pulse duration, 5 mm spot size, 16 J/cm(2) fluence, and 10
