Effect of Sleep Hygiene on Metabolic Syndrome in an Adult Rural Population in India: Protocol for a Cross-Sectional Study.

BACKGROUND: Metabolic syndrome (MetS) refers to a group of conditions including high blood pressure, excess weight, high blood glucose, and abnormal cholesterol and triglyceride levels that together substantially increase the risk of heart disease and diabetes. Poor sleep hygiene is associated with a higher likelihood of type 2 diabetes, while sleep duration can affect the development of various MetS components. Approximately 25% of adults worldwide currently have MetS, and this prevalence is projected to increase to 50% by 2035. However, there is a distinct lack of evidence about the specific…

Trichomonads in the oral cavity of dogs and cats: species composition and relationship with animal age and oral hygiene status.

The oral cavity provides a suitable environment for various microorganisms, including protozoa such as trichomonads, which may be associated with periodontal disease development. Humans are considered the typical hosts of Trichomonas tenax but it has also been found in dogs, cats, and other animals, which makes it a factor with a significant zoonotic potential. Apart from T. tenax, domestic carnivores may be infected with such species as T. canistomae, T. felistomae and T. brixi. The aim of this study was to determine the prevalence, species composition, and risk factors of trichomonad coloniz

Youth insights on menstrual health and hygiene in Burkina Faso; a comparison of written versus spoken qualitative text.

Understanding girls' lived experiences with menstruation is essential yet can be challenging given the taboo nature of the topic. While diaries have not previously been employed as a data collection method among girls in this setting, the use of diaries could generate unique insights due to their private, reflective, and participant-led nature. Our study aimed to explore the menstrual health and hygiene experiences of schoolgirls in Burkina Faso, comparing diaries and in-person interviews, and to capture girls' thoughts on the process and value (or lack thereof) of diary writing. This study in…
