Planning a Perinatal Mental Health Intervention for a Post-Disaster Rural Community: Caregivers' and Women's Perspectives.

Mentors Offering Maternal Support (M-O-M-S™) is an intervention to reduce prenatal anxiety among vulnerable women. The aim of this study was to determine its applicability to support pregnant women living in Louisiana's rural Bayou Region after Hurricane Ida. Post-disaster interviews with 22 perinatal/community care providers and 20 pregnant/postpartum women were evaluated using qualitative analysis. Maternal health caregivers described the mental health needs of women using specific themes: (1) Caring for women vulnerable before the disaster, (2) Disaster affects everybody's mental health, (3

The association between occupational silica exposure and leukemia: a systematic review and meta-analysis of cohort studies.

Respirable crystalline silica is a proven lung carcinogen, but there is limited information of the carcinogenic effects of silica on non-respiratory organs. We aimed to systematically review cohort studies and conduct a meta-analysis to explore the relationship between occupational exposure to silica and the risk of leukemia development. We performed an exhaustive search across three databases (PubMed, Embase, and Web of Science) to identify pertinent cohort studies published since 1987. After removing duplicates and excluding irrelevant studies, 22 studies were included in our analysis. We ut

Chimeric antigen receptor natural killer cell therapy: A systematic review of preclinical studies for hematologic and solid malignancies.

Advancements in the field of CAR-T therapy have brought about a revolution in the treatment of numerous types of cancer in the past ten years. However, despite the remarkable success achieved thus far, certain barriers impede the widespread implementation of this therapy such as intricate manufacturing processes and treatment-associated toxicities. As an alternative, chimeric antigen receptor-engineered natural killer cell (CAR-NK) therapy presents a viable opportunity for a simpler and more cost-effective "off-the-shelf" treatment option, which is likely to result in fewer adverse reactions.

Validating Operating Stability and Biocompatibility Toward Safer Zinc-Based Batteries.

Wearable and implantable electronics are standing at the frontiers of science and technology, driven by the increasing demands from modernized lifestyles. Zinc-based batteries (ZBs) are regarded as ideal energy suppliers for these biocompatible electronics, but the corresponding biocompatibility validation is still in the initial stage. Meanwhile, complicated working conditions and some extreme electrolyte environments raise strict challenges, leaving less choices for safe ZBs. Toward higher operating stability and biocompatibility, this work proposes a hydrogel electrolyte featuring the moist

Intervention Outcomes, Anxiety, Self-Esteem, and Self-Efficacy With DHH Students in Universities.

This article reports the impact of an online spiritual counseling (OSC) program in mitigating anxiety and building self-esteem and academic self-efficacy among deaf and hard-of-hearing (DHH) students in universities. Compared to online relaxation sessions, the OSC was more effective. Male DHH students and those whose parents were highly qualified exhibited less anxiety and higher self-esteem and self-efficacy at pretest (T1). Post-test (T2) male students having better educated parents responded better to the OSC. T2 anxiety was lower and self-esteem and academic self-efficacy was higher for li

Housing First and the Risk of Failure: A Comment on Westermeyer and Lee (2013).

Over the last 5 years, community policies in response to homelessness have shifted toward offering permanent housing accompanied by treatment supports, without requiring treatment success as a precondition. The US Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) has embraced this "Housing First" approach. A 2013 report sounds a contrarian note. In a 16-person quasi-experimental study, 8 veterans who entered VA's permanent supportive housing did poorly, whereas 8 veterans who remained in more traditional treatment did well. In this commentary, we suggest that the report was problematic in the conceptualizat

Contexts and Mechanisms Related to the Efficacy of Digital Medication Adherence Interventions to Support Medication Adherence Among Adults With Chronic Diseases: Realist Review.

BACKGROUND: Digital medication adherence interventions for individuals diagnosed with chronic conditions have been developed, but their long-term efficacy in improving medication adherence has been limited. Exploring mechanisms and contexts related to outcomes of digital medication adherence interventions is important for these to be effectively tailored for different populations and contexts. A realist review was conducted to assess which intervention components might work for whom, and under what circumstances. METHODS: A realist review of literature published between 2002-2024 was conducte

Harm reduction services and interventions for People Who Use Drugs (PWUD) in Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC) between 2013-2024: A scoping review protocol.

INTRODUCTION: In Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC) the response to substance use has primarily been abstinence-based, acute-care-oriented treatments. While harm reduction services (HRS) and interventions have expanded in LAC over the last decade, the research evidence on such programs has been sparse and disjointed. OBJECTIVE: This scoping review will map peer-reviewed literature on HRS and interventions in LAC, and synthesize gaps and opportunities for policy, practice, and research. INCLUSION CRITERIA: Studies conducted in LAC. The HRS that will be included in the search are opioid ago

Citizen science-based biodiversity monitoring in oil palm plantations.

Agricultural expansion is one of the main threats to global biodiversity. Yet, many wildlife species survive, and sometimes even thrive, in agricultural landscapes that retain patches of natural ecosystems. This paradox is evident in tropical oil palm (Elaeis guineensis, Jacq.) plantations that have both replaced tropical forest and other species-rich ecosystems, but can also function as wildlife habitat, especially if fragments of natural ecosystems are retained. There is an urgent need to understand how to manage and monitor wildlife in these landscapes. The lack of large, quantitative datas

Malaria Vaccines and Global Equity: A Scoping Review of Current Progress and Future Directions.

The journey toward a viable malaria vaccine, initiated in 1965, reached a major milestone in 2021 with the WHO's endorsement of RTS,S/AS01, a recombinant protein-based malaria vaccine. This progress continued with the 2023 approval of the R21/Matrix-M vaccine, which is more cost-effective, more potent due it is higher protein content, and easier to manufacture. Though these achievements signal hope, malaria's intricate life cycle and its prevalence in underprivileged regions make vaccine development and equitable distribution challenging. This review explains the lifecycle of malaria and explo
