BACKGROUND: Major hepatectomy after prolonged intra-arterial hepatic chemotherapy (IAHC) is extremely rare, because IAHC usually fails to reduce the tumor volume sufficiently or obtain a long duration of response, or both, and because it impairs hepatic function. The treatment of base of tongue (BOT) cancer is highly controversial with differing options according to individual institutions, or the primary surgical or radiation therapy bias. In vivo distribution of radiolabeled lymphokine-activated killer (LAK) cells that were administered either through the caudal vein or the abdominal aorta of Lewis rats was studied. Local response of hyperthermia for soft tissue and bone tumors was investigated.
