BACKGROUND: Injury to femoral arterial vessels is a risk with internal fixation of the hip. Understanding the anatomy of proximate vessels, particularly medial vessels not directly visualized, may reduce intraoperative and postoperative complications.

OBJECT: Axial lumbar interbody fusion (AxiaLIF) is a novel minimally invasive approach for fusion of L4-5 and L5-S1. This technique uses the presacral space for percutaneous access to the anterior sacrum. The AxiaLIF procedure has the potential to decrease patient recovery time, length of hospital stay, and overall occurrence of surgical complications. INTRODUCTION: Total hip arthroplasty is an effective procedure for end-stage hip disease, yet post-operative hematoma may signal an underlying bleeding disorder, particularly when the presentation is delayed. von Willebrand disease, the most common inherited coagulopathy, often remains undiagnosed in older adults because bleeding histories can be subtle or atypical.
