Drug-Eluting Stents: Their Preventative/Prophylactic Role Against Gemcitabine Induced Acute Coronary Syndrome.

Acute coronary syndrome (ACS), a subdivision of ischemic cardiac disease, is the sudden occlusion of coronary vessels that results in decreased blood supply to heart muscles and possible infarction. Though some of the etiologies are hypertension, hyperlipidemia, diabetes mellitus, and tobacco; certain types of chemotherapies play a major role. Percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) has shown lifesaving results via drug-eluting stent (DES) deployment into occluded vessels. In this study, DES utilization among patients receiving chemotherapy will be assessed to observe if it provides any preve

Bilateral Pallidotomy for Dystonia: A Systematic Review.

Stereotactic lesioning of the bilateral globus pallidus (GPi) was one of the first surgical treatments for medication-refractory dystonia but has largely been abandoned in clinical practice after the introduction of deep brain stimulation (DBS). However, some patients with dystonia are not eligible for DBS. Therefore, we reviewed the efficacy, safety, and sustainability of bilateral pallidotomy by conducting a systematic review of individual patient data (IPD). Guidelines of the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses and IPD were followed. In May 2020, Medline, Emba

The prevalence of 30-day readmission after acute myocardial infarction: A systematic review and meta-analysis.

OBJECTIVE: The 30-day readmission is associated with increased medical costs, which has become an important quality metric in several medical institutions. This current study is aimed at clarifying the prevalence, the underlying risk factors, and reasons of the 30-day readmission after acute myocardial infarction (AMI). METHODS: PubMed, Cochrane Library, and EMBASE were systematically searched to identify eligible studies. Random-effect models were employed to perform pooled analyses. Means and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) were used to estimate prevalence and reasons for 30-day readmission.

Endovascular treatment for symptomatic intracranial artery stenosis: protocol for a systematic review and network meta-analysis.

INTRODUCTION: Atherosclerotic intracranial artery stenosis (ICAS) is one of most common causes of stroke, which is the second-leading cause of death worldwide. Medical, surgical and endovascular therapy are three major treatments for ICAS. Currently, medical therapy is considered as the standard of care for most patients with ICAS, while extracranial to intracranial bypass is only used in rare situations. Balloon angioplasty alone, balloon-mounted stent and self-expanding stent, collectively called endovascular treatment, have shown promising potentials in treating specific subgroups of patien

Health Care, Family, and Community Factors Associated with Mental, Behavioral, and Developmental Disorders in Early Childhood - United States, 2011-2012.

Sociodemographic, health care, family, and community attributes have been associated with increased risk for mental, behavioral, and developmental disorders (MBDDs) in children (1,2). For example, poverty has been shown to have adverse effects on cognitive, socio-emotional, and physical development (1). A safe place to play is needed for gross motor development, and accessible health care is needed for preventive and illness health care (3). Positive parenting and quality preschool interventions have been shown to be associated with prosocial skills, better educational outcomes, and fewer heal
