Metaplastic breast cancer with a unique presentation and complete response to chemotherapy: a case report.

BACKGROUND: Metaplastic breast carcinomas are a rare variant group of breast carcinomas. They are usually high-grade and triple-negative tumors. They often present with large primary tumor sizes. However, the involvement of axillary lymph nodes is infrequent at the time of diagnosis. Metaplastic breast carcinomas are associated with a worse prognosis and a poorer response to chemotherapy in comparison with other non-metaplastic triple-negative breast cancers. Up until this point, there are no specific treatment recommendations for metaplastic breast carcinomas beyond those intended for invasiv

[Current status of treatment for early-stage invasive breast cancer].

Breast cancer is the most common female cancer, with annually more than one million new patients diagnosed worldwide. The incidence of breast cancer has increased steadily in the developed countries over the past few decades, but the mortality caused by breast cancer has decreased in recent years, partly because of improved screening techniques, surgical and radiotherapy interventions, understanding of the pathogenesis of the disease, and utilization of traditional chemotherapies in a more efficacious manner. One of the most exciting areas of improvement in the treatment of breast cancer is th

Ascending colon metastasis after breast cancer surgery: a case report and literature review.

BACKGROUND: Breast cancer is the most common cancer in women. The tumor is prone to metastasize in the brain, lung, liver, bone, and other organs; however, generally, it is less likely to metastasize in the digestive tract. Thus, breast cancer metastasizes to colon is rarely happened and easily ignored by clinicians. Such misdiagnosis may lead to delay the further diagnosis and treatment of patients, or even cause the life danger of patients due to the progress of the disease. Therefore, we propose such case reports to arouse clinicians' attention to the rare case of digestive tract metastasis

The correlation of extranodal invasion with other prognostic parameters in lymph node positive breast cancer.

BACKGROUND: The presence of extranodal invasion (ENI) in the metastatic lymph nodes is reported to increase the risk of locoregional recurrence while shortening disease-free and overall survival in patients with breast cancer. In this study the relationship between ENI and other prognostic parameters and survival is investigated. METHODS: Of 650 patients with breast cancer who were treated in Ankara Oncology Teaching and Research Hospital from 1996 to 2003, 368 (56.6%) had lymph node metastasis. The patients with axillary metastasis were separated into two groups as with and without invasion

A case report of paraneoplastic neurological syndrome associated with occult breast cancer.

Paraneoplastic syndromes are the rarest neurological complications in patients with breast cancer. Here, we present a case of occult breast cancer presenting as paraneoplastic sensory neuropathy. A 47-year-old woman developed progressive upper and lower extremity weaknesses with paresthesia and gait ataxia. Multiple cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) analyses and magnetic resonance image (MRI) scans of her brain and spine offered no diagnosis. Although no paraneoplastic antibodies were found, paraneoplastic neurological syndrome was suspected after examination by the neurologist eliminated other possib

[Impact of preoperative lymphatic chemotherapy on relapse and metastasis of breast cancer and its mechanism].

BACKGROUND & OBJECTIVE: Although it is reported that lymphatic chemotherapy could raise drug concentrations in local lymph nodes and prolong survival time of patients with gastrointestinal tumors, its effect on breast cancer has not been explored. This study was to explore the impact of lymphatic chemotherapy on relapse and metastasis of breast cancer, and to investigate the mechanism. METHODS: Sixty patients with breast cancer of stage II-III were randomized into 2 groups: 40 patients in Epi-CH (carbon activated absorbing epirubicin) group were injected with 10 mg of Epi-CH in the tissue aro

Accessory breast tissue in axilla masquerading as breast cancer recurrence.

Ectopic or accessory breast tissue is most commonly located in the axilla, though it may be present anywhere along the milk line. Development is hormone dependent, similar to normal breast tissue. These lesions do not warrant any intervention unless they produce discomfort, thus their identification and distinction from other breast pathologies, both benign and malignant, is essential. We report a case with locally advanced breast cancer who presented with an ipsilateral axillary mass following surgery, radiotherapy, and chemotherapy. Subsequent evaluation with excision biopsy showed duct ecta

[Clinical observations on Stewart-Treves syndrome].

Adding to the existing literature three cases of Stewart-Treves-syndrome in a secondary lymphedema of the leg, a postmastectomy lymphedema with progressing mamma-ca and an uncomplicated postmastectomy lymphedema are described and compared with former observation. Thanks to the physical therapy of edema the frequency of Stewart-Treves-syndrome seems to be lowered compared to former statistics.

Beyond the Tumor: Invasive Fungal Infection Unveiled in HER2-Positive Breast Cancer Patient Mimicking Disease Relapse.

INTRODUCTION: Breast cancer is a major global health concern among all malignancies, with HER2-positive breast cancer representing a particularly aggressive subtype. It affects approximately 20% of patients and is associated with a high risk of relapse. The management of HER2-positive breast cancer has been significantly improved by targeted therapies, though challenges remain, especially in resource-limited settings. Invasive fungal infections are also common and can manifest as metastatic lesions in immunocompromised cancer patients undergoing intensive treatments making the diagnosis challe

Mixed primary mucinous cystadenocarcinoma and invasive ductal carcinoma of the breast: a case report and literature review.

BACKGROUND: Mucinous cystadenocarcinoma (MCA) mainly occurs in the ovary, pancreas, and appendix, whereas the breast is a rare primary site of occurrence. Invasive ductal carcinoma (IDC) is the most common breast malignancy. Only 31 cases of the breast MCA have been reported in the English literature, and the coexistence of MCA and IDC in the breast are rare. CASE DESCRIPTION: Here, we describe a 61-year-old postmenopausal woman with no family history of breast cancer or other breast-related diseases, who presented with a palpable mass in her left breast lasting for 2 months. On ultrasonograp

Advanced breast cancer with cachexia: A case report.

RATIONALE: Cachexia is a clinically relevant syndrome in cancer that is associated with reduced tolerance to anticancer therapy, reduced quality of life, and reduced survival rates. Cachexia is most prevalent in pancreatic, gastric, colorectal, lung, and head and neck cancers. It is rarely documented in breast cancer patients. PATIENT CONCERNS: In our case report of a breast cancer patient with bone metastasis who was monitored throughout the course of her treatment, we document the development of cachexia using image analyses in relation to her metastatic burden. In the 2-year period, from A

Perceptions of Arab men regarding female breast cancer screening examinations-Findings from a Middle East study.

OBJECTIVES: In the Middle East, Qatar in particular, the incidence of breast cancer has substantially increased in recent years, and is expected to double by 2030. This diagnosis also occurs at a later stage in the disease. Early detection along with proper treatment reduces radical mastectomy and mortality rates, yet only one-third of Arab women in Qatar participate in breast cancer screening (BCS) activities of any sort. Many women in the conservative Qatari society rely on male family members for support and protection. This study investigates the attitudes and perceptions of Arab men in re

Correlates of Lymphedema in Women with Breast Cancer: a Case Control Study in Shiraz, Southern Iran.

Globally, the burden of breast cancer (BC) continues to increase. BC related lymphedema (BCRL) is currently non curable and as a life time risk it affects at least 25% of BC patients. Knowing more about BCRL and appropriate control of its modifiable risk factors can improve quality of life (QOL) of the affected patients. In this case control study to detect factors, 400 women with BCRL (as the case group) and 283 patients with BC without lymphedema (as the control group) that were referred to Shiraz University of Medical Sciences affiliated BC clinic center were assessed. The data were analyze

Triple negative breast cancer in Moroccan women: clinicopathological and therapeutic study at the National Institute of Oncology.

BACKGROUND: Triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) is defined by the lack of estrogen receptor (ER), progesterone receptor (PR), and human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER-2) expression. This is an aggressive malignancy with a poor prognosis despite the high rates of response to chemotherapy. The aim of this study is to determine the clinicopathological, therapeutic features and outcomes associated with this type of breast cancer. METHODS: This is a retrospective study of confirmed triple negative breast cancer females collected at the National institute of oncology of Rabat in Morocco,
