Intent to Refer: Exploring Bias Toward Specific Medication-Assisted Treatments by Community Corrections Employees.

BACKGROUND: As opioid use increases in the United States, especially in the correctional population, the most effective treatment approaches need to be utilized. Research has shown that medication-assisted treatment (MAT) provides better outcomes than traditional treatment approaches alone, but is underutilized among correctional-supervised populations. OBJECTIVE: This article looks at how previously identified barriers to implementing MAT can create potential biases regarding the intent to refer individuals to either buprenorphine or methadone among treatment and correctional staff within co

[Working conditions and health problems among call-centre operators: a study on self-reported data in the Piedmont Region (Italy)].

BACKGROUND: Currently, about 250,000 workers are employed in the call-centre sector in Italy. The nature and the organization of the work exposes workers to a variety of psychosocial and ergonomic hazards, with a potential impact on physical and psychological health. OBJECTIVE: The aim of the study was to investigate working conditions and health status among call-centre operators, in order to estimate the prevalence of exposure to psychosocial and ergonomic risk factors, and of potentially work-related health problems. METHODS: Workers from seven call-centres operating in the Torino area we

Sickness absence as an interactive process: gendered experiences of young, highly educated women with mental health problems.

OBJECTIVE: Highly educated Dutch women experience more work related mental health disability than their male counterparts, and yet little is known regarding the process. Using the theory of symbolic interactionism, we examined how women interpret their roles at work, during sick leave, and upon their return to work. METHODS: Semi-structured interviews focusing on role perceptions and interactions with other actors were conducted with 13 women (aged 29-41 years) on sick leave or off work for periods ranging from half a year to 8 years. RESULTS: The women worked overtime because of work aholis

An argument for dental hygiene to develop as a discipline.

UNLABELLED: The practice of dental hygiene was developed to provide oral health education and preventive oral health care, originally for children. It has grown to provide oral health services valued by a broad spectrum of society, but has not attained the desired respect and status accorded to other professional groups. OBJECTIVE: Professional disciplines link actions of practitioners with the science that is the foundation of practice. The purpose of this paper is to examine whether dental hygiene practice could benefit from pursuit of development as a discipline. METHODS: Literature on pr

Androgens and mood dysfunction in women: comparison of women with polycystic ovarian syndrome to healthy controls.

OBJECTIVE: Our understanding of the organizational and activational effects of human gonadal hormones on behavior has depended on the study of endocrine disorders. Polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) is a hormonal disorder that begins in puberty and is characterized by chronically augmented free testosterone (FT) levels. The purposes of this study were 1) to compare negative mood states of women with PCOS to those of women with normal hormonal levels and 2) to examine the relationship between negative moods and androgens. METHODS: Twenty-seven women with PCOS were case-matched to 27 normal men

Multidimensional approach to perceptions in football academies about educational, relational, inclusive, safety and social aspects among players, parents and coaches.

INTRODUCTION: Youth football represents an important educational and social environment for young people's development. Previous studies have typically assessed players, coaches, and parents using the same questionnaire to directly compare perceptions. Although methodologically rigorous, this approach may overlook role-specific perspectives. Therefore, this study aimed to analyse and compare the perceptions of players, coaches, and parents regarding the educational and social value of youth football from their respective viewpoints. METHODS: A multidimensional, multi-stakeholder approach was

Development and validation of a behaviour change intervention package to improve health literacy on behavioural risk factors of non-communicable diseases among health care assistants of government hospitals in Sri Lanka - exploratory research.

BACKGROUND: Non-communicable diseases (NCDs) are the leading cause of premature deaths globally, largely driven by modifiable behavioural risk factors such as unhealthy diet, physical inactivity, tobacco use, and alcohol consumption. Health literacy (HL) plays a vital role in modifying these behaviours. Evidence shows that Healthcare Assistants (HCAs) in Sri Lanka despite working in hospitals often demonstrate limited HL and high rates of risk behaviours. Enhancing HL among HCAs is therefore essential both for their own health and for enabling them to serve as credible health advocates in NCD

Integrating Psychiatric, Psychotherapeutic, and Nursing Care in Intranasal Esketamine for Treatment-Resistant Depression.

Background/Objectives: Intranasal esketamine has emerged as an effective treatment for patients with treatment-resistant depression (TRD), providing rapid symptom relief when conventional antidepressant strategies fail. While its pharmacological efficacy has been demonstrated in randomized controlled trials, less attention has been paid to the organizational, relational, and multidisciplinary aspects that influence its real-world implementation and clinical effectiveness. While practical recommendations for intranasal esketamine services exist, an implementation-ready framework integrating psy

Impact of context on nurse-led implementation of evidence-based pain management practices in the Sumamos Excelencia project: a qualitative study.

BACKGROUND: Context analysis is a key element in the implementation of evidence-based practice. It contributes to understanding why certain interventions succeed in some settings and fail in others, while also supporting the tailoring of implementation strategies to different populations and settings. This task becomes especially challenging when implementing complex interventions that involve multidisciplinary teams operating across multiple organisations. Current literature highlights the need for innovative methodological approaches capable of capturing complexity across settings and examin

Orthogeriatric Fracture Syndrome: A Large-Scale Bibliometric Analysis of a Proposed Concept for Cross-Disciplinary Awareness and Coordinated Care.

Background/Objectives: Older patients with fractures often present with a complex interplay of factors associated with frailty and functional decline. The emerging concept of Orthogeriatric Fracture Syndrome (OFS) aims to characterize these distinct relationships of pathologies and outcomes. Despite increasing recognition of OFS in clinical practice, due to the distributed nature of fragility factors across medical disciplines, it remains poorly defined in the literature. Methods: We used large-scale text mining of 26 million PubMed abstracts to quantify the occurrence and interrelationship of

Translating Patient-Professional Divergence into Care-Improvement Priorities in Pelvic Floor Rehabilitation: A Delphi-Dialogue Study.

Background/Objectives: Pelvic floor dysfunctions (PFDs) are highly prevalent chronic conditions associated with substantial functional and psychosocial burden. Although multidisciplinary pelvic floor rehabilitation is recommended as first-line management, its effectiveness depends not only on intervention efficacy but also on care delivery, communication, patient engagement, and long-term adherence. This study applied the Delphi-Dialogue Patients-Professionals (DDPP) framework to quantify patient-professional alignment and translate identified patient-professional perceptual differences into c
