Diabetic and ischaemic non-healing pedal ulcers have a tendency for chronicity and increased chances of infection, which may threaten the viability of the foot. Systemic administration of therapeutic agents may be insufficient in these cases. We have assessed the role of retrograde venous perfusion (RVP) for the treatment of nine diabetic and 10 ischaemic non-healing pedal ulcers. The clinical syndrome of VOD is a frequent cause of nonrelapse mortality among patients receiving high-dose cytoreductive regimens. Patients likely to develop VOD have existing liver dysfunction, evidence of infection before conditioning, tend to receive more intensive preparative regimens, and often receive marrow from alternative donors. Fourteen children and adolescents aged between four and 17 years with genuine sudden hearing loss were analyzed in a retrospective study. The symptoms of hearing loss, tinnitus and vertigo were similar to those found in adults. The study's findings suggest that younger children particularly below the age of 14, will not suffer from these symptoms. Consequently, the disease was frequently diagnosed in younger children after the parents had observed defective hearing.
