Case identification is a key component of HIV prevention efforts; yet rates of HIV testing remain low in some settings. We explored factors associated with HIV test avoidance among people who inject drugs (IDU) in Thailand. Between July and October 2011, 350 Thai IDU participated in the study. Motor vehicle crashes (MVCs) are the leading cause of death among teenagers in the US. The present study examines how crash rates and crash characteristics differed among drivers aged 16, 17, 18, 19, 20, and 21 in the state of Maryland from 1996 through 1998. The results show that, based on police reports, the youngest drivers have the highest rate of MVC per licensed driver and per annual miles driven. A survey was performed of 425 consecutive patients attending Lewisham Hospital as a result of deliberate physical violence. Eighty-two per cent attended 'out of hours', and in at least 50% alcohol was a contributing factor. Less than half the incidents were reported to the police. Fifteen per cent of the attacks were due to knives and accounted for 47% of the admissions and 90% of the serious injuries.
