Decolonising Healthcare Through Curricula: Integrating Indigenous Knowledges and Person-Centred Practice Through the Integrated Indigenous and Person-Centred Practice Theory and Framework.

AIM AND DESIGN: Indigenous knowledge systems offer enduring, relational and strengths-based frameworks for health and wellbeing. This theory and framework paper critically analyses how colonial legacies embedded in nursing curricula marginalise Indigenous knowledges and perpetuate inequities for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. We argue that current approaches, often fragmented, tokenistic and additive in nature, fail to address the structural and pedagogical roots of unsafe cultural practices and institutional racism in nursing education. RESULTS: In response, we present the In

Pairwise and three-country comparisons of high and low COVID-19 vaccination rates in 12 African countries: a mixed-method study protocol.

INTRODUCTION: The COVID-19 pandemic has highlighted significant disparities in vaccine uptake across sub-Saharan Africa, yet research exploring the regional and country-specific factors influencing these rates remains limited. Understanding these factors is crucial for developing targeted regional and global public health interventions to improve vaccination uptake and strengthen pandemic preparedness. This study aims to fill a critical knowledge gap by assessing the factors influencing vaccination rates across sub-Saharan Africa at the operational, systemic and socio-political levels. METHOD

People and sites as community resources for preventing and managing chronic health conditions: A conceptual analysis.

The prevention and management of chronic non-communicable diseases (NCDs) require community-based efforts-especially as their burden grows, and recognition of the need for engaging diverse stakeholders in care grows. The aim of this conceptual analysis was to categorise existing community resources (people and sites) used to support such efforts, the mechanisms by which they work, and the conditions that constrain their effectiveness. We developed an initial framework for categorising community resources. We then used a sample of the literature- 24 studies from 12 countries-to refine and enric

COVID-19 and anosmia: The story so far.

OBJECTIVES: The pandemic has affected over 182 million coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) cases worldwide. Accumulated evidence indicates that anosmia is one of the significant characteristics of COVID-19 with a high prevalence. However, many aspects of COVID-19-induced anosmia are still far from being fully understood. The purpose of this review is to summarize recent developments in COVID-19-induced anosmia to increase awareness of the condition. METHODS: A literature search was carried out using the PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, and Scopus. We reviewed the latest literature on COVID-19-

Harm reduction, methadone maintenance treatment and the root causes of health and social inequities: An intersectional lens in the Canadian context.

BACKGROUND: Using our research findings, we explore Harm Reduction and Methadone Maintenance Treatment (MMT) using an intersectional lens to provide a more complex understanding of Harm Reduction and MMT, particularly how Harm Reduction and MMT are experienced differently by people dependent on how they are positioned. Using the lens of intersectionality, we refine the notion of Harm Reduction by specifying the conditions in which both harm and benefit arise and how experiences of harm are continuous with wider experiences of domination and oppression; METHODS: A qualitative design that uses

[The opinions of Belgian physicians about their practice].

QUESTIONS: Considering the numerous changes in the health system, do medical doctors (MDs) feel difficulties in practising their profession? Are there complaints regarding the fact that the "medical chart" is in danger? Is Herzberg's theory about factors of satisfaction confirmed? METHOD: Qualitative analysis of MDs' spontaneous comments, stated at the end of a postal survey (MDs of the French speaking universities of Belgium, settled since 5 to 10 years or 15 to 20 years): 5 546 were contacted in 1999 and 2040 answered; 862 provided comments about their career and/or about their feelings reg

Improved air quality in reunified Germany and decreases in respiratory symptoms.

BACKGROUND: Previous research on air pollution effects has found associations with chronic adverse health effects even at the relatively low levels of ambient particulates currently measured in most urban areas. METHODS: We assessed the impact of declines of total suspended particulates and sulfur dioxide in eastern Germany after reunification on the prevalence of nonallergic respiratory disorders in children. In the 1990s, particle mass (total suspended particulates) and sulfur dioxide declined, whereas number concentrations of nucleation-mode particles (10-30 nm) increased. In three study a

Challenges of Implementing Antenatal Ultrasound Screening in a Rural Study Site: A Case Study From the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

Persistent global disparities in maternal and neonatal outcomes and the emergence of compact ultrasound technology as an increasingly viable technology for low-resource settings provided the genesis of the First Look Ultrasound study. Initiated in 2014 in 5 low- and middle-income countries and completed in June 2016, the study's intervention included the training of health personnel to perform antenatal ultrasound screening and to refer women identified with high-risk pregnancies to hospitals for appropriate care. This article examines the challenges that arose in implementing the study, with

Combating infectious disease outbreaks in Somalia's fragile health system: the impact of climate change-narrative review.

INTRODUCTION: Somalia, the 44th largest country in the world by land area, struggles with a heavy burden of infectious diseases. Since 1991, populations have lacked essential health services, exacerbated by recurring infectious-disease outbreaks. Recurrent outbreaks of measles, cholera, and polio have devastated public health, generating significant morbidity and mortality. Despite improvements through new graduates, these issues remain unresolved. This study examines the impact of climate change on infectious-disease outbreaks in Somalia focusing on cholera, measles, and polio-to fill a gap i

Exploring the role of commercial actors and structures in contributing to sexual violence in live music venues.

Sexual violence is a significant public health issue, and increasing attention has focused on sexual violence in live music venues, particularly the social and environmental features that contribute to it. While research on the commercial determinants of health has expanded, it has not been applied to sexual violence. This study examines how commercial factors, including commercial practices and structures, contribute to sexual violence in live music venues. We draw on interviews with 25 staff and patrons from live music venues in the Northern Territory, Australia, conducted in late 2024. Part

Piecing Together Piecemeal Regulation: Stakeholder Insights Into Joint Statutory Regulation to Reduce Children's Unhealthy Commodity Marketing Exposure in Aotearoa New Zealand.

ISSUE ADDRESSED: Globally, there is growing momentum for statutory marketing regulation over unhealthy commodities (UHC), including alcohol, tobacco, unhealthy food and gambling. These attempts respond to ubiquitous UHC marketing and immense UHC-related harm. Governments' ability to protect people is often undermined by piecemeal regulation for UHCs, despite substantial similarities between the commodities. This article explores Aotearoa New Zealand (NZ) stakeholder perspectives on joint regulation of the marketing of UHCs. METHODS: We interviewed 15 stakeholders from across the UHC policy pr

Social, Racial, and Economic Disparities Affecting Outcomes of Hypertensive Adolescents.

Essential hypertension is one of the most common conditions managed in pediatric cardiology and can result in lasting deleterious effects on the cardiovascular system. Pediatric hypertension is so prevalent in the United States that it is often referred to as a public health challenge. Social determinants of health (SDH) are the cultural, economic, educational, healthcare accessibility, and political influences in the environment in which an individual is born or lives, all of which can affect that individual's overall health. This study investigated the impact of social determinants such as r
