A new patent pending technique is proposed in this study to improve the mechanical and biological performance of ultra high molecular weight polyethylene (UHMWPE), i.e., to uniformly coat nylon onto the UHMWPE fiber (Firouzi et al., 2012). METHODS: The X-ray and CT examination were performed before operation to diagnose the orbital fracture and intraorbital tissue displacement. We compared, after a 10-year-minimum follow-up, the outcome of 50 cemented all-polyethylene Charnley acetabular sockets with that of 51 cementless metal-backed sockets in 2 comparable cohorts of young patients. We describe a patient with severe combined immunodeficiency because of aberrations in adenosine deaminase (ADA) who despite adequate replacement with polyethylene glycol-linked ADA (PEG-ADA) for 13 years developed Burkitt's lymphoma. This is a report of a unique case of bilateral simultaneous total knee arthroplasties in which one tibial liner failed dramatically, whereas the other liner showed minimal evidence of wear. This unique case allows isolation of component factors as the primary contributing etiology to failure.
