The effect of varying pulse duration, wavelength, spot size, and fluence on the response of previously treated capillary vascular malformations to pulsed-dye laser treatment.

Modern lasers allow different parameters to be altered in an effort to gain further improvement in otherwise resistant capillary vascular malformations (CMs). The aim of this study was to examine the effect of changing the pulse duration, wavelength, spot size, and fluence on the color and capillary architecture of 585-nm pulsed-dye, laser-resistant CMs. Eighteen patients were assessed with a depth measurement videomicroscope (DMV) before and after 12 test patches with ScleroPlus and V-Beam lasers at specified parameters. In the majority of the test patch areas, there was little improvement af…

Comparative study of aminolevulic acid photodynamic therapy plus pulsed dye laser versus pulsed dye laser alone in treatment of viral warts.

OBJECTIVE AND BACKGROUND: A number of scientific publications describe the removal of viral warts using photoselective laser destruction with pulsed dye laser (PDL) or photodynamic therapy (PDT). Although both methods represent an enormous improvement in therapy, the results are not sufficiently consistent to consider these methods as the "gold standard" for therapy. METHODS: With a view to further improvement we combined a photoselective dye laser (595 nm, 20 J.cm(-2)) with photodynamic therapy using aminolevulic acid. The results of this method were compared against traditional laser photod…

Implantable Pulse Generator Site Pain Following Spinal Cord Stimulation: A Case-Control Study.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: Implantable pulse generator site pain (IPGSP) is a complication of spinal cord stimulator implantation that can warrant revision or removal. Although considering bony anatomy, seating position, and clothing may help reduce the incidence of IPGSP, the optimal site remains unclear. In addition, there is a paucity of data on factors predisposing patients to IPGSP, primarily limited to uncontrolled retrospective case series. We sought to investigate factors associated with IPGSP after spinal cord stimulation. METHODS: A current procedural terminology code-based search w…

A single UV-C pulse modulates Gibberellin homeostasis and Plant Development in Arabidopsis.

Plants are rarely exposed to ultraviolet C (UV-C) radiation because it is absorbed by the ozone layer. Nevertheless, low doses of UV-C can induce physiological and developmental responses, although the underlying hormonal mechanisms are not well understood. We show that a single one-minute UV-C pulse (20 W/m2) is associated with temporally distinct differences in gibberellin (GA) homeostasis in Arabidopsis. At early sampling times, levels of GA12, a precursor of bioactive GAs, are lower in UV-C-treated plants compared with controls. This is accompanied by lower transcript levels of KS and KAO2…

Impacts of Different Boundary Conditions on Dirac Pulse from a Well into Aquifer.

For a partially penetrating well, a Dirac pulse can be generated by sudden charge of water from the well end into the contiguous rock, and subsequently the pulse diffuses away in terms of slow P-wave. This process is described by the Green's function for the initial-value problem. The Green's functions subject to three boundary conditions (BC) are compared mutually, that is, no BC, zero Neumann BC and zero Dirichlet BC for infinitely far boundary, the confining unit and unconfined aquifer, respectively. The well end is set at 10 m below the boundary, and the mass of water suddenly injected is …

Pulse Waveform Changes During Vasopressor Therapy Assessed Using Remote Photoplethysmography: A Case Series.

Background/Objectives: Septic shock involves severe circulatory and microcirculatory dysfunction and often requires vasopressors to maintain adequate mean arterial pressure (MAP). Conventional monitoring mainly reflects macrocirculation and may not capture changes in vascular tone or microcirculation. Remote photoplethysmography (rPPG) is a contactless optical method that analyzes peripheral pulse waveforms and may offer additional physiological insight during vasopressor therapy. The aim of this study was to assess the feasibility of rPPG for detecting pulse waveform changes associated with n…

Associations of Brain Morphology and Cognitive Function With Ambulatory Estimated Pulse Wave Velocity.

BACKGROUND: Inconsistent links between arterial stiffness and cognition may reflect limited cognitive tests and unaccounted diurnal pulse wave velocity variation. To bridge this knowledge gap, we investigated 24-hour ambulatory estimated pulse wave velocity (ePWV) and its association with dementia-related neuroimaging and cognitive function in hypertension. METHODS: We assessed 893 patients with hypertension aged ≥50 years (mean age, 67.2 years; 52.3% women), including brain magnetic resonance imaging (n=545), global cognitive testing (n=623), and ambulatory ePWV measurements. White matter hy…

Radial pulse harmonic analysis for cardiometabolic assessment: a computational and translational mini review.

PURPOSE: Radial pulse harmonic analysis has emerged as a quantitative frequency-domain approach for non-invasive assessment of cardiovascular and metabolic physiology through characterization of arterial hemodynamics. By decomposing radial pressure pulse waveforms into harmonic components, this method provides physiologically interpretable information regarding arterial compliance, wave reflection, vascular resistance, and ventricular-arterial coupling that may not be fully captured by conventional blood pressure measurements or time-domain indices. METHODS: This mini review summarizes the th…

FDG-avid pulse granulomas mimicking peritoneal metastases in colorectal cancer: a case report.

Pulse granulomas are a rare, benign foreign body granulomatous reaction, characterized by hyaline rings, surrounded by multinucleated cells. While typically reported in the oral cavity and lungs, reports on extraoral gastrointestinal manifestations are limited. We present a case on a 72-year-old gentleman with a history of bowel perforation who was found to have a splenic flexure adenocarcinoma on surveillance colonoscopy. Staging imaging showed innumerable fluorodeoxyglucose-avid peritoneal nodules, with concerns of metastatic disease. Diagnostic laparoscopy and peritoneal biopsy found pulse …

HIV-1 virome profiling using HIV-PULSE to guide therapeutic and curative interventions.

BACKGROUND: The persistent HIV-1 reservoir remains a major barrier to curing HIV-1, underscoring the need for a detailed understanding of its composition to inform targeted interventions. METHODS: Here, we apply the HIV Proviral Unique molecular identifier-mediated Long-read Sequencing (HIV-PULSE) assay to characterise the viral reservoir in 90 individuals on suppressive antiretroviral therapy. By generating near full-length proviral sequences, HIV-PULSE enables multiple layers of in silico analyses across the HIV-1 genome. FINDINGS: These data support the construction of participant-specifi…

Effects of narrow- vs. wide-pulse neuromuscular electrical stimulation training on functional performance. J Strength Cond Res XX(X): 000-000, 2026-Neuromuscular electrical stimulation (NMES) training has been shown to improve maximal isometric strength but inconsistent effects have been reported on dynamic/functional outcomes. Inconsistencies have been attributed to the general training setup (isometric mode) and to the unphysiological motor unit recruitment pattern of NMES. As pulse duration c…
