The skin of color population is rapidly growing in the United States. This population has numerous unique and more commonly occurring dermatologic conditions. Additionally, certain cutaneous conditions can present differently in darker versus lighter skin types. BACKGROUND: The hyperactive melanocytes present in melasma skin are confined to the epidermis, but epidermal ablation to treat melasma pigmentation may lead to disease recurrence and aggravation.
