The pes anserinus is a common tendon comprising the tendinous insertions of the sartorius, gracilis, and semitendinosus muscles. It inserts at the anteromedial aspect of the tibia and plays a significant role in stabilization of the medial side of the knee joint. The current article presents a case with recurrent lateral patellar dislocations causing chronic stress along the medial knee stabilizers and consecutive enthesophyte formation at the insertion of the pes anserinus tendon that showed a transverse fracture upon a subsequent incident of traumatic lateral patellar dislocation. Avulsion i

Patellar tendon rupture is a rare occurrence usually associated with chronic degeneration within the tendon, systemic illness, and fluoroquinolone therapy as mentioned previously. However in healthy adults, overweight men in their 3rd or 4th decade of life may be at increased risk when partaking in athletic activities, especially jumping activities. Patella alta is a key finding on physical exam and on radiographs as was evident in our case. Imaging can also be performed with ultrasound and MRI to confirm tendon rupture and rule out other concurrent injuries. Prompt surgical management and ear

Basketball is a high-intensity sport associated with a wide range of musculoskeletal injuries, most commonly involving the lower extremities. These injuries frequently result from high-impact loading, rapid directional changes, and biomechanical inefficiencies such as poor neuromuscular control and abnormal movement patterns. Although acute injuries often occur through noncontact mechanisms during play, direct contact injuries have become more common over the years. Overuse injuries are also frequent in basketball and may develop silently and progress over time. Imaging plays a vital role in d

Knee dislocations, aka multiligamentous injuries, are uncommon but devastating injuries often following high-energy trauma. Tears of the major knee stabilizers are well documented; however, injuries of the knee extensor mechanism are less commonly reported. The extensor mechanism is comprised of the patella, patellar tendon, and quadriceps tendons. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is the preferred imaging modality of internal derangements of the knee due to its excellent soft tissue contrast. In this article, we will discuss the normal imaging findings of the extensor mechanism and review abno

INTRODUCTION: The aim of our study was to determine the self-reported incidence and prevalence of running-related injuries among participants of the 18th Ljubljana Marathon, and to identify risk factors for their occurrence.
METHODS: A customized questionnaire was distributed over registration. Independent samples of t-test and chi-square test were used to calculate the differences in risk factors occurrence in the injured and non-injured group. Factors which appeared significantly more frequently in the injured group were included further into multiple logistic regression analysis.
RESULTS:

BACKGROUND: Although the identification of patellar tendon rupture is a clinical diagnosis aided by standard radiography, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) may aid in identifying the location of the rupture and concomitant pathology.
PURPOSE: To evaluate the characteristics of patellar tendon tears needing surgical repair and to determine whether patient or injury factors were predictive of tear location.
STUDY DESIGN: Case series; Level of evidence, 4.
METHODS: Consecutive patients who underwent primary patellar tendon repair for rupture between May 15, 2017, and April 10, 2020, were review

The purpose of this article is to provide a clinically oriented classification system for superior labral injuries based on etiology, pathoanatomy, and associated biceps-labrum anchor complex injuries. The proposed classification system is based primarily on the mechanism of superior labral injuries as an ABCD classification (A, acute trauma; B, Bankart extension from instability; C, chronic repetitive overhead activity; and D, degenerative). The recognition of the cause is paramount to appropriately treating these patients, especially when considering operative treatment. Traumatic injuries i

BACKGROUND: Soft tissue defects in the achilles tendon region occur after trauma, but also as a complication after open recon- struction of the tendon with subsequent infection.
OBJECTIVES: Recommendations for the treatment of soft tissue injuries involving the Achilles tendon are presented.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: A search of the German, French and English literature on reconstruction of soft tissue defects of the Achilles tendon region was performed, which were differentiated into singular and combined tendocutaneous defects. Combined defects were further subdivided into three reconstructiv

Posttraumatic ulnar subluxation of the extensor tendon over the metacarpal head results from rupture of the radial sagittal fibers. The patient will complain of limited digital extension and pain. Various techniques have been described to correct the disorder by either reefing the sagittal fibers or using a slip of extensor tendon around the radial collateral ligament. Unfortunately, these techniques are either technically not feasible, reefing of the sagittal fibers, or result in significant stiffness, using a strip of extensor tendon. The author describes an extraarticular technique which us

OBJECTIVES: To conduct a detailed analysis of preseason football injuries sustained in English professional football over two competitive seasons.
METHODS: Club medical staff at 91 professional football clubs annotated player injuries. A specific injury audit questionnaire was used together with a weekly form that documented each club's current injury status.
RESULTS: 17% (1025) of the total number of injuries over the two seasons were sustained during the preseason, the mean number of days absent per injury was 22.3 days. Younger age groups (17-25 yrs) were more likely to sustain a preseaso

Review of MRI, CT, and radiographic views of 21 intraarticular calcaneal fractures revealed eight cases of peroneal tendon subluxation or dislocation. Routine radiographs were nondiagnostic for the soft tissue injury in five of these eight patients. The anatomic relationships between the tendons, retinaculum, and fibular groove could typically be identified easily on MRI or CT scan. In this combined injury, recognition of the peroneal tendon subluxation or dislocation and its proper management may reduce subsequent tendon dysfunction; it may also alter the calcaneal fracture management.

INTRODUCTION: Open traumatic Achilles tendon rupture is uncommon, particularly in the pediatric population. Unlike closed spontaneous ruptures - which predominantly affect middle-aged adults - sharp lacerating injuries in children pose challenges due to contamination risk and the close relation of neurovascular structures in the posterior ankle. We report a case of complete open Achilles tendon rupture in a 9-year-old boy following a sharp metallic object injury, treated with primary tendon repair using the Modified Kessler technique. This case adds to the limited pediatric literature and may g

Diabetes mellitus (DM) is associated with musculoskeletal complications-including tendon dysfunction and injury. Patients with DM show altered foot and ankle mechanics that have been attributed to tendon dysfunction as well as impaired recovery post-tendon injury. Despite the problem of DM-related tendon complications, treatment guidelines specific to this population of individuals are lacking. DM impairs tendon structure, function, and healing capacity in tendons throughout the body, but the Achilles tendon is of particular concern and most studied in the diabetic foot. At macroscopic levels,

Isolated latissimus dorsi tendon rupture is an exceedingly rare injury with a paucity of literature available to help guide management. The anatomy of the posterior aspect of the axilla and chest wall is complex. Nonoperative treatment has been described as an acceptable form of management for these injuries. A small subset of case reports and case series also show success with latissimus dorsi repair. We show a one-incision technique for repair of a humeral-sided avulsion of the latissimus dorsi tendon.

Complete distal semitendinosus tendon tears are rare hamstring injuries. They often present with a "pop" followed by delayed pain and swelling. We describe the case of a collegiate athlete with an isolated distal semitendinosus tendon tear diagnosed by MRI and ultrasound after being treated for a stress fracture of the anterior tibial shaft with an intramedullary nail. The tear progressed from partial to complete after 2 weeks of rehabilitation and return to practice. The patient was ultimately successfully treated with semitendinosus tenodesis.

Peroneal tendon injuries should be considered in the differential diagnosis of lateral ankle pain and instability. The spectrum of injury to the peroneal tendons includes tenosynovitis, tendinitis, subluxation, dislocation and tears. The mechanism, presentation and treatment of isolated peroneal brevis and longus injuries has been described in the literature. This is a case study of a rare combined peroneus brevis and longus injury in a young healthy collegiate athlete.

In order to study the influence of severity of tendon injury on the morphology of collagen fibers during healing process of extensor tendons, 40 female Wistal rats were used for investigation. The rats were divided into 2 groups. Transection of the tendon of extensor digitorum longus was performed in one group, while partial section of the same tendon was performed in the other group. Morphometric analysis was undertaken on the 15th, 30th, 60th and 90th day after operation. The result was that there was no significant difference between the two groups both in distribution and diameter of colla
