[Use of various clinico-psychological methods in the differential diagnosis of depressive conditions].

As many as 120 patients with endogenous depression, 116 patients with neurological depression and 100 healthy test subjects were examined using a number of psychological methods: Spilberger-Khanin test for reactive and personality anxiety, personality differential and a questionnaire of depressive conditions (QDC). The purpose of the investigation lay in the search for differential diagnostic criteria for depressive conditions. The task of the investigation also included clinical and neurobiological validation of the QDC. With this purpose in view, the results of the patients' testing with the

A Systematic Scoping Review of Measures Used to Evaluate Treatment-Induced Changes in Depression, Anxiety, and Chronic Stress in People with Post-Stroke Aphasia.

BACKGROUND: People with aphasia have an increased risk of developing symptoms of depression, anxiety, and chronic stress - all of which interfere with rehabilitation and limit functional outcomes. Interventions addressing the mental health needs of people with aphasia are critically important and rapidly emerging. Most self-rated questionnaires are highly language-dependent. It is unclear how aphasia researchers are managing this potential study limitation. AIMS: To examine how treatment-induced changes in depression, anxiety, and chronic stress are currently being measured in people with str

A multi-group confirmatory factor analysis of the revised children's anxiety and depression scale (RCADS) in Spain, Chile and Sweden.

BACKGROUND: There is a need for a measure that can be used across countries and cultures to advance cross-cultural research about internalizing mental health symptoms in children and adolescents. The Revised Children's Anxiety and Depression Scale (RCADS) is a potential candidate, but no study has examined whether its scales are measured similarly in youth populations from different countries. METHODS: In this study, we use confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) and multi-group CFA to examine the cross-cultural properties of a short and free to use 30-item version of RCADS that assesses social, g

Improving skin picking diagnosis among Brazilians: validation of the Skin Picking Impact Scale and development of a photographic instrument.

BACKGROUND: Skin picking disorder is a prevalent disorder frequently comorbid with depression and anxiety, which is underdiagnosed mainly by dermatologists. Assessment of skin picking disorder is based on instruments influenced by the awareness about skin picking disorder and comorbid symptoms. To date, there is no validated instrument for Brazilian individuals nor an instrument to evaluate the severity of skin lesions in an objective way. OBJECTIVES: Validate the Skin Picking Impact Scale for Brazilian Portuguese and create a photographic measurement to assess skin lesions. METHODS: The sam

The Role of Anxiety Sensitivity and Expectancy Manipulation on Panic-Like Response to the 35% CO2 Challenge in Healthy Subjects.

BACKGROUND: The 35% CO2 challenge is a well-established method triggering panic attacks under laboratory-controlled conditions. There is an ongoing debate whether single or the joined effects of the instructional set and anxiety sensitivity (AS) can alter the outcome of the challenge. OBJECTIVES: The present study investigated the effects of instruction manipulation and AS on panic-like response to the 35% CO2 challenge. METHODS: Eighty healthy subjects, with high or low levels of AS, were randomized into 4 groups based on standard/manipulated instructional sets as well as 35% CO2 mixture/ro

Psychometric properties of the social phobia and anxiety inventory-child version in a Swedish clinical sample.

The social phobia and anxiety inventory for children (SPAI-C) is a 26 item, empirically derived self-report instrument developed for assessing social phobic fears in children. Evidence for satisfactory psychometric properties of the SPAI-C has been found in multiple community studies. Since its development, however, no study has presented an extensive psychometric evaluation of SPAI-C in a sample of carefully diagnosed children with social phobia. The present study sought to replicate and expand previous studies by administrating the SPAI-C to a sample of 59 children that fulfilled DSM-IV crit

Effect of continuity nursing on vision-related quality of life, anxiety, and perceived social support in patients with ocular trauma-related low vision: A propensity score-matched cohort study.

Ocular trauma is a leading cause of acquired low vision in working-age adults and often results in long-term functional disability and psychosocial burden. Post-discharge care strategies tailored to this population remain underdeveloped. This retrospective, propensity score-matched cohort study included adult patients with ocular trauma-related low vision treated at the Third Affiliated Hospital of Zunyi Medical University (the First People's Hospital of Zunyi) between January 2019 and December 2024. Patients who received structured continuity nursing after discharge were matched 1:1 to contro

[Social phobia: historical and conceptual perspectives].

Social phobia is individualized in international classifications only since 1980 with the DSM III, ten years after the publication by Marks of its phobic disorders classification. Nevertheless, many european authors, psychiatrists or psychologists, have raised the question of social anxiety as far back as the eighteenth century, with various points of view and appellations. The first report of an ereutophobia observation is due to Casper, in 1846, which described a serious social anxiety affecting a young man. Ereutophobia has been especially studied by Pitres and Regis, in 1807 and 1902, and

Paws for relief: A pilot randomized controlled study of animal assisted therapy's effect on pediatric ICU healthcare workers' stress and anxiety.

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: Animal assisted therapy (AAT) decreases stress, anxiety, and improves overall well-being in healthcare workers (HCW). However, little is known about its effects on pediatric intensive care unit (PICU) HCW, who experience higher risks for burnout, compassion fatigue, and acute stress compared to other specialties. This pilot randomized controlled and feasibility study examined the impact of AAT on PICU HCW's perceived stress and anxiety during a clinical shift. METHODS: Thirty-two PICU HCWs were randomized to a 15-min AAT session with a facility dog and child life speci

Visuospatial working memory capacity moderates the relationship between anxiety and OCD related checking behaviors.

BACKGROUND: Compulsive checking behavior is the most prevalent compulsive behavior in patients with obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD). While some studies have shown that anxiety and executive function influence compulsive checking behavior, the relationship between these constructs is inconclusive. Hence, we sought to explore the interplay between executive function, anxiety and compulsive checking behavior. MATERIALS AND METHODS: 47 healthy participants (HC) and 51 patients with OCD participated in the study. Symptoms and emotional states were assessed using the Yale-Brown Obsessive Compul
