The Ethiopian Gemini Trust in Addis Ababa is a charitable organisation which cares for mothers who have delivered twins or triplets. A dental preventive programme for the disadvantaged children in the Trust was begun and this paper describes the first objective of the programme, the determination of the levels of dental disease. Caries, periodontal disease, malocclusion and enamel opacities were recorded.

Successful treatment of primary sterility in a woman having the rare association of panhypopituitarism with Fredrickson's Type V hyperlipemia is described. Replacement therapy with l-thyroxine, prednisone and a low fat diet cleared the patient's blood of the excessive chylomicrons and very low density lipoproteins. Ovulation was induced with human gonadotrophins, and triplets (two normal girls and a boy) were born.

We report a gold-mediated energy transfer strategy for the sequential double [2 + 2] photocycloaddition of coumarins with dienes, providing access to polymethylene-linked bis(cyclobutane-fused chromanones). The reaction proceeds under mild conditions and affords structurally complex products in moderate to good yields. Optimization studies, control experiments, triplet-energy analysis, and DFT calculations support a triplet energy transfer pathway involving diradical intermediates.

High-order pregnancies are associated with high morbidity and mortality and the incidence is increased as a drastic complication of assisted reproductive technology. This case presents a high-order pregnancy achieved by transfer of three blastocyst stage embryos resulting in a quintuplet pregnancy including a monochorionic triplet. Following the selective termination of the monochorionic triplet, two healthy children were born. The mechanism of monochorionic development and its association with assisted reproductive technology are discussed.

Sheehan's syndrome, though rare, is still one of the commonest causes of hypopituitarism in developing countries like ours. The clinical presentation is variable with abrupt or insidiously developing pituitary insufficiency after a heavy intrapartum or postpartum haemorrhage. We present an elderly lady with this syndrome who had slowly progressive panhypopituitarism 24 years after a severe haemorrhage associated with the delivery of triplets.

BACKGROUND: Huntington's disease is a progressive neurodegenerative disease, genetically determined by CAG trinucleotide expansions in the IT15 gene. The onset of the symptoms is related to the number of CAG triplets. Because the patients are asymptomatic in the early phase of the disease, in vivo biomarkers are needed to follow up the reurodegeneration and to test putative neuroprotective approaches. A successful triplet gestation in a 45,X/46,XY woman is presented. A previously hypoplastic uterus was prepared for implantation by exogenous hormone replacement. Conception was achieved through in vitro fertilization of donor oocytes and transfer of four embryos into a hormonally primed endometrium. This case illustrates that some women with 45,X/46,XY karyotype can have a successful triplet pregnancy. Therefore, a conservative approach during gonadectomy in patients with a Y chromosome may be warranted.

Triplet repeats contribute to normal variation in behavioral traits and when expanded, cause brain disorders. While Huntington's Disease is known to be caused by a CAG triplet repeat in the gene Huntingtin, the effect of CAG repeats on brain function below disease threshold has not been studied. The current study shows a significant correlation between the CAG repeat length of the maternal and paternal allele in the Huntingtin gene among healthy subjects, suggesting assortative mating.
