Cetirizine hydrochloride was administered orally at 5 mg/cat, q24h, to 32 cats with allergic skin disease. Pruritus was reduced in 41% (13/32) of the cats. The antipruritic effect was repeatable and sustainable. There was no significant association between patient age, disease severity, or cutaneous reaction pattern and improvement during cetirizine administration. No adverse side effects were reported.

Cutaneous eruptions are among the most common adverse reactions to drugs. We report a novel case of erythema annulare centrifugum occurring after the administration of finasteride for androgenetic alopecia. The eruption resolved once the drug was discontinued and reappeared with reintroduction of finasteride. This case may encourage reporting of similar cases and further study of finasteride hypersensitivity.

Cutaneous side effects from heparin administration are rare and usually located at injection sites. We report 3 cases of intraepidermal hemorrhagic blisters occurring distant from sites of subcutaneous injections of heparin. A causative link is suggested by a temporal relationship between heparin introduction and onset of disease as well as exclusion of other causes, but the mechanism remains unknown.

Intravenous immunoglobulin (IVIG) therapy has been used to treat a variety of immune mediated disorders. Cutaneous reactions to IVIG are rare and have only been anecdotally described. We describe three cases with dyshidrotic-like biopsy proven spongiotic dermatitis after administration of IVIG. These three cases may highlight an uncommon and rarely reported side effect of IVIG.

Bacillus Calmette Guerin (BCG) has been used to vaccinate against tuberculosis since 1921. Persistant skin and lymph node lesions yielding Mycobacterium bovis are a rare complication for which there is not standardized treatment. We report an 11 month old child with a progressive cutaneous nodule and lymphadenopathy after BCG vaccination. These rapidly cleared with administration of clarithromycin.

Many reports have documented serious pelvic infection associated with an IUD. A case of ligneous pelvic cellulitis with cutaneous sinus tract formation, hydronephrosis, and ureteral obstruction in a patient with an IUD is presented. This is an uncommon manifestation of chronic pelvic infection and responded to antibiotics and steroid administration. The origin and treatment of ligneous cellulitis are discussed.

A paronychial granuloma on the left thumb, in a man who kept tanks of tropical fish, was followed by cutaneous nodules on the left upper limb and tender lymph nodes in the left axilla. Mycobacterium marinum was isolated from the lesion on the thumb and also from the tank water. Subsidence of the lesions followed administration of trimethoprim and sulphamethoxazole.

Toxic epidermal necrolysis (TEN) is a severe and life-threatening cutaneous reaction usually caused by systemic drug administration. We describe the clinical and laboratory findings of a young man with mycosis fungoides. The disease was associated, since the early stages, with autoimmune purpura. Interferon alfa (IFN-alpha) administration improved this patient's condition, both the purpuric eruption and patchy cutaneous lesions, thus suggesting T-cell abnormalities may be responsible for the development of the disease.
