Ultrastructural localization of Na+,K+-ATPase in rat ciliary epithelium was investigated quantitatively by the protein A-gold technique, using an affinity-purified antibody against the alpha-subunit of Na+,K+-ATPase. Over a 5-year period, three children with psoralen-induced burns were seen. All children were on treatment for vitiligo with a psoralen oil and burns were sustained from unsupervised sun exposure while playing outdoors. OBJECTIVE: Internal body temperature is an essential parameter in evaluation an animal's general health status. The rectal temperature as 'gold standard' requires restraining of the animal which may cause stress especially when not accustomed to handling procedures. Stress on the other hand should whenever possible be avoided as it negatively affects animal welfare and may increase body temperature. The present study evaluated whether measuring the body surface temperature with an infrared thermometer (IRT) may represent a stressless alternative method to rectal body temperature measurements.

It is a rare cutaneous reaction due to delayed hypersensitivity to drugs characterised by the destruction and separation of the skin epithelium and mucous membranes, affecting between 10% and 29% of the body surface area. The clinical description of the case and a detailed description of nursing management and interventions based on the available literature are reported.

The rectum is an anatomically protected and well vascularized structure. Injury to the rectum is usually the result of penetrating perineal mechanisms or reported scalding enemas. Here, we report a case of isolated rectal necrosis following a 72 % total body surface area burn that resulted from a motor vehicle crash. The patient's rectal injury was managed with open resection, left in discontinuity and ultimately expired. In presenting this case, we hope to share an unusual development in a patient with critical illness and guide future care.

Recently, clinical data on 8 weeks’ once-daily treatment of localized moderate-to-severe psoriasis with a novel fixed combination halobetasol propionate 0.01%/tazarotene 0.045% (HP/TAZ) lotion were published.1,2 HP/TAZ lotion was significantly more effective than individual active ingredients or vehicle, based on improvements in Investigator’s Global Assessment (IGA), body surface area (BSA) involvement, and signs and symptoms of psoriasis (erythema, plaque elevation, and scaling) at the target lesion as well as a synergistic benefit over individual active ingredients, and good tolerability.

Febrile ulceronecrotic Mucha-Habermann disease is a very rare and severe variant of pityriasis lichenoides et varioliformis acuta. Adult cases are difficult to diagnose as in the early course they can mimic erythema multiforme or lymphomatoid papulosis. We report a case of a 38-year-old woman who presented with 90% body surface area involvement, fever, diarrhea, malaise and associated comorbidities. She was treated with systemic steroids and methotrexate but suffered a fatal outcome. So far, a total of 65 cases are reported in the literature.

An 83-year-old female with aortic and mitral stenosis showed orthopnea. The aortic valve pressure gradient was 139 mmHg. The mitral valve orifice was 0.92-1.05 cm2 and the right ventricular pressure was 70 mmHg. The body surface area of the patient was 1.23 m2. Double valve replacement was performed with 16 mm CarboMedics pediatric bileaflet valve for the aortic position and 25 mm CarboMedics mitral valve for the mitral position. The patient leads a normal daily life with NYHA class II three years after surgery.

A 3-year-old girl presented with a distorted pupil and decrease of visual acuity. A ciliary body mass at the superior-temporal quadrant could be seen at slit-lamp examination. Ultrasound biomicroscopy revealed a lesion with lobulated surface, arising at the ciliary body, composed of compact and cystic areas. An iridocyclectomy was performed but the tumour recurred after a few months. The eye was then enucleated. Histopathologic evaluation showed sheets and cords of proliferated medullary epithelium.
