Anxiety-depression symptom networks across emotion regulation profiles in Chinese nurses: a latent profile and network analysis.

BACKGROUND: Depression and anxiety are highly prevalent among clinical nurses. This study employed a person-centered analytical approach to identify distinct emotion regulation (ER) profiles among Chinese clinical nurses and examined the structure of depressive and anxiety symptoms within each profile using latent profile analysis (LPA) complemented by network analysis (NA). METHODS: A cross-sectional survey was conducted among clinical nurses in China. A total of 1,436 eligible nurses (mean age = 34.16, SD = 7.49; 93.5% female) participated. Participants completed the 10-item Emotion Regulat

Treating Guilt-Inducing Self-Talk in Ocd with Dramatized Socratic Dialogue: A Step by Step Intervention.

OBJECTIVE: Fear of moral guilt and conseque:nt increased attention to personal actions and intentions are the main ingredients of the self-criticism in patients suffering from obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD). This pathogenic attitude takes shape in a typical guilt-inducing self-talk.The purpose of this work is to describe in detail a novel cognitive therapeutic procedure for OCD called "Dramatized Socratic Dialogue" (DSD). METHOD: DSD is a theory-oriented intervention that combine elements of Socratic dialogue, chairwork, and cognitive acceptance strategies derived from Mancini's model, w

Musculoskeletal exercise: Its role in promoting health and longevity.

Resistance training (RT) is an often ignored but essential component of physical health. The functioning of the musculoskeletal system declines with age, resulting in sarcopenia, loss of muscle strength and power, decrease in muscle flexibility and balance. Other pertinent age-related changes include decline in basal metabolic rate, increase in fat mass, and decrease in bone mineral density. Such primary aging can be accentuated by the concomitant presence of comorbid conditions, such as insulin resistance and diabetes, obesity, inflammatory conditions, and physical inactivity (PI). The latter

Regulation of cocaine seeking behavior by locus coeruleus noradrenergic activity in the ventral tegmental area is time- and contingency-dependent.

Substance use disorder is linked to impairments in the ventral tegmental area (VTA) dopamine (DA) reward system. Noradrenergic (NA) inputs from locus coeruleus (LC) into VTA have been shown to modulate VTA neuronal activity, and are implicated in psychostimulant effects. Phasic LC activity controls time- and context-sensitive processes: decision making, cognitive flexibility, motivation and attention. However, it is not yet known how such temporally-distinct LC activity contributes to cocaine seeking. In a previous study we demonstrated that pharmacological inhibition of NA signaling in VTA sp…

Educational diversity and group creativity: Evidence from fNIRS hyperscanning.

Educational diversity is defined as the diversity of educational backgrounds measured by multiple subjects. This study aimed to unveil the i … oup than in the HD group. These findings indicate that although high educational diversity benefits cognitive flexibility, it does not necessarily lead to a better idea quality or greater idea quantity. The greater IBS increments and perspective-taking behaviours that we observed in the LD group may account for this.

Cortical hemodynamic mechanisms of reversal learning using high-resolution functional near-infrared spectroscopy: A pilot study.

OBJECTIVES: Reversal learning is widely used to analyze cognitive flexibility and characterize behavioral abnormalities associated with impulsivity and disinhibition. Recent studies using fMRI have focused on regions involved in reversal learning with negative and positive reinforcers. Although the frontal cortex has been consistently implicated in reversal learning, few studies have focused on whether reward and punishment may have different effects on lateral frontal structures in these tasks. METHODS: During this pilot study on eight healthy subjects, we used functional near infra-red spec…

Novel PSEN1 p.Gly417Ala mutation in a Korean patient with early-onset Alzheimer's disease with parkinsonism.

Mutations in presenilin 1 (PSEN1) are the most common cause of autosomal dominant Alzheimer's disease. Here, we report a 37-year-old male Korean patient carrying a PSEN1 p.Gly417Ala mutation with exceptionally early and severe presentations, including a wide range of atypical symptoms of rapid cognitive decline with a stooped posture, rigidity, and bradykinesia. Targeted next-generation sequencing of proband revealed a novel nucleotide substitution (c.1250G>C) in exon 12 of PSEN1 gene, altering glycine to alanine at 417 position. Three-dimensional protein structure prediction revealed that the

Induced rumination dampens executive processes in dysphoric young adults.

Self-focused, analytical mental rumination constitutes a central process in depression. It has been hypothesized that such rumination depletes executive resources that are necessary for an efficient cognitive regulation of emotion and behavior. However, most of the research supporting this hypothesis is of correlational nature. The present study examined the effects of induced rumination versus distraction on executive capacities in dysphoric and nondsyphoric college students. Executive functioning was measured with the Stroop task. Results indicate that induced rumination decreases inhibition

Visual Accessibility through Open Shelving: Impacts on Cognitive Load, Motivation, Physical Activity, and User Perception in Older Adults with Mild Cognitive Impairment.

Older adults with Mild Cognitive Impairment (MCI) often experience difficulty locating items in kitchen cabinets, limiting their experiences in the kitchen and with meal preparation. This study examined how open shelving kitchen cabinets, relative to closed cabinets, affects cognitive load, motivation, physical activity, and user perception among older adults with MCI. Eleven older adults completed meal preparation tasks in both conditions while data on eye-tracking, wrist accelerometry, step count, task duration, and Intrinsic Motivation Inventory were collected. Efficacy of a Computer-Assisted Cognitive Rehabilitation Intervention in Relapsing-Remitting Multiple Sclerosis Patients: A Multicenter Randomized Controlled Trial.

Cognitive impairment is frequently encountered in multiple sclerosis (MS) affecting between 40-65% of individuals, irrespective of disease duration and severity of physical disability. In the present multicenter randomized controlled trial, fifty-eight clinically stable RRMS patients with mild to moderate cognitive impairment and relatively low disability status were randomized to receive either computer-assisted (RehaCom) functional cognitive training with an emphasis on episodic memory, information processing speed/attention, and executive functions for 10 weeks (IG; n = 32) or standard clin

[Social cognition disorders in Klinefelter syndrome: A specific phenotype? (KS)].

INTRODUCTION: The Klinefelter syndrome (KS) is a genetic condition characterized by an X supernumerary sex chromosome in males. The syndrome is frequently associated with cognitive impairment. Indeed, the different areas of the executive sphere can be affected such as inhibition, cognitive flexibility but also attentional and visual-spatial domain. Social cognition disorders, predominantly on emotional recognition processes, have also been documented. In addition, the syndrome may be associated with psychiatric symptoms. MATERIAL AND METHOD: Our study aims to characterize of the various compo…

Mechanisms and Impact of Cognitive Reserve in Normal Aging and Alzheimer's Disease.

Age-related cognitive decline and individual differences in dementia susceptibility are increasingly explained through the concept of cognitive reserve (CR). CR reflected the brain's adaptive capacity to sustain cognitive performance despite Alzheimer's disease (AD)-related pathology, extending beyond traditional biomarkers that captured the molecular or structural changes, but often failed to account for clinical heterogeneity. This review provided a comprehensive synthesis of how CR was operationalized through three major methodological approaches: sociobehavioral proxies, residual variance

Synergistic impact of early-life stress and prenatal immune activation on spatial memory and oxidative metabolism in rat cortico-limbic networks.

Early life exposure to immune activation and stress are critical factors involved in the development of mental and neurodevelopmental disord … l cortex. Rats exposed to both stressors demonstrated significant impairments in spatial memory and cognitive flexibility, supporting the "two-hit" hypothesis of early adversity, which posits that early life exposure to an adverse environmental event (first hit) combined with subsequent exposure to stress during critical developmental periods (second hit) can significa …

Adolescent social defeat decreases spatial working memory performance in adulthood.

BACKGROUND: Adolescent social stress is associated with increased incidence of mental illnesses in adulthood that are characterized by deficits in cognitive focus and flexibility. Such enhanced vulnerability may be due to psychosocial stress-induced disruption of the developing mesocortical dopamine system, which plays a fundamental role in facilitating complex cognitive processes such as spatial working memory. Adolescent rats exposed to repeated social defeat as a model of social stress develop dopaminergic hypofunction in the medial prefrontal cortex as adults. To evaluate a direct link bet

[Cognitive remediation therapy for children: literature data and clinical application in a child and adolescent psychiatry department].

The hypothesis of cerebral plasticity in psychiatric disorders has encouraged clinicians to develop cognitive remediation therapy (CRT), a new therapeutic approach based on attention, memory, planning, and mental flexibility tasks. The first cognitive remediation programs were developed and validated for adults with schizophrenia and were shown to have a positive impact on executive functions as well as on quality of life. In children and adolescents, researchers emphasized the existence of executive dysfunction in neurodevelopmental disorders such as autistic spectrum disorder, attention defi
