Host- and tissue-specific pathogenic traits of Staphylococcus aureus.

Comparative genomics were used to assess genetic differences between Staphylococcus aureus strains derived from infected animals versus colonized or infected humans. A total of 77 veterinary isolates were genetically characterized by high-throughput amplified fragment length polymorphism (AFLP). Bacterial genotypes were introduced in a large AFLP database containing similar information for 1,056 human S. aureus strains. All S. aureus strains isolated from animals in close contact with humans (e.g., pet animals) were predominantly classified in one of the five main clusters of the AFLP database

The Role of Glutamatergic and Dopaminergic Genes in Resistant Schizophrenia: A Systematic Review.

Psychosis is a heterogeneous disorder, with approximately one-third of patients experiencing treatment resistance, predominantly among individuals diagnosed with Schizophrenia. Treatment-resistant schizophrenia (TRS) may stem from a distinct biological signature, involving abnormalities in the dopaminergic and glutamatergic systems. However, generalizing research findings has been challenged by inconsistent definition of resistance. Following PRISMA guidelines, a systematic literature search was conducted across four databases (PubMed, Embase, PsycINFO, and Medline) utilizing the treatment res

A novel missense mutation in tropomyosin 1 gene associated with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy.

Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) is a common genetic heart disorder that can lead to heart failure or sudden death. Family-based identification of rare sarcomeric variants can support molecular diagnosis and cascade screening in inherited HCM. This study aimed to identify and evaluate a novel TPM1 variant found in a Vietnamese family with HCM. The proband, a 3-year-old boy diagnosed with HCM, and eight relatives from three generations underwent clinical and genetic evaluation. A candidate variant initially identified by targeted next-generation sequencing was validated by PCR and Sanger seque

Single amino acid variation in MAB21L1 is dominantly associated with congenital eye defects.

BACKGROUND: Diagnosis of a genetic disease and determination of the causative molecular lesion rely on the availability of the disease-associated pedigrees. Microphthalmia is a congenital eye defect due to an insufficiently developed visual system; its prevalence is 1-3 in 10 000 live births. OBJECTIVE: We analysed a pedigree exhibiting autosomal dominant inheritance of microphthalmia to determine the genetic lesion; used AlphaFold2 to predict the changes in the protein's 3-Dimensional structure; and compared wild-type and variant proteins in cultured cells or Drosophila model was used to exp

Full-Genome Sequences and Phylogenetic Analysis of Archived Danish European Bat Lyssavirus 1 (EBLV-1) Emphasize a Higher Genetic Resolution and Spatial Segregation for Sublineage 1a.

European bat lyssavirus type 1 (EBLV-1) is the causative agent for almost all reported rabies cases found in European bats. In recent years, increasing numbers of available EBLV-1 full genomes and their phylogenetic analyses helped to further elucidate the distribution and genetic characteristics of EBLV-1 and its two subtypes, namely EBLV-1a and EBLV-1b. Nonetheless, the absence of full-genome sequences from regions with known detections of EBLV-1 still limit the understanding of the phylogeographic relations between viruses from different European regions. In this study, a set of 21 archived
