PURPOSE: To describe a novel surgical technique for the management of progressive keratoconus by simultaneous femtosecond laser-assisted Myoring implantation and accelerated corneal intrastromal collagen cross-linking with Dextran Free Riboflavin.

Rouleaux formation of washed red blood cells (r.b.c.s) from subjects with sickle cell trait (HbAS) was measured by the rapid coagulation method. The r.b.c.s were suspended in the donor's native plasma or in 1.3% dextran in phosphate-buffered Ringer solution at pHs of 6.5, 7.4 and 8.2. HbAS cells showed more rouleaux formation than HbAA (normal) cells in plasma (P less than 0.005). Plasma fibrinogen concentration of HbAS and HbAA subjects did not differ significantly (mean 2.9, s.d. 0.7 g l-1 for both groups). In the dextran solution, HbAS cells were more aggregable at pH 6.5 but less at pH 8.2

Acute cerebral infarction of 141 cases with treatment combining TCM and WM was reported. An automatic method of determining the molecular weight parameters (Mw, Mn) of microbial polysaccharides such as dextran, pullulan was developed based on the use of high performance size-exclusion chromatography on the two types of columns: Zorbax PSM 60 + 300 + 1000 and SynChropack GPC 100 + 500 + 1000. The Mw and Mn values were determined for a number of domestic and foreign dextran preparations. Changes in the molecular weight of pullulan and hydroxyethylstarch resulted from acid and enzymatic hydrolysis were estimated.

The possibility of using two-phase systems of water-soluble polymers, polyethylene glycol (PEG) (molecular weight 6000 daltons), dextran sulphate (DS) (molecular weight 500,000 daltons), PEG- dextran (D) (molecular weight 500,000 daltons) for concentration of measles and parotitis viruses was studied. Virus concentration was found to occur in the interphase and lower phase, and the coefficient of concentration for both viruses to be 300 in the PEG-DS system and 60-100 in PEG-D system.

In this study a state of temporary defibrinogenation was induced in rats by Defibrase treatment. It was found that the formation of pulmonary metastases after intravenous tumour cell injection was decreased in defibrinogenated rats. However, defibrinogenation did not influence the effect of trauma and infusion of dextran 1000 on metastasis formation. Both these procedures stimulated the formation of metastases in defibrinogenated rats. These results indicate, that fibrinogen and/or fibrin are of importance for the formation of metastases but that the stimulating effect of trauma and dextran 10

Rats selectively bred for non-reactivity to clinical dextran (NR rats) fail to exhibit the anaphylactoid reaction to systemic baker's yeast or horse serum. Rats which respond with an anaphylactoid reaction to clinical dextran (R rats) react to baker's yeast but do not react to horse serum. The widespread oedema produced in R rats by systemic baker's yeast provides yet another clear method of differentiating them from NR rats.
