The effect of weekly iron supplementation on anaemia and on iron deficiency among female tea pluckers in Bangladesh.

AIM: To investigate the effect of weekly iron supplementation on anaemia and iron deficiency among adult, female tea pluckers. METHOD: A randomized double-blind intervention trial was conducted in a tea estate in Bangladesh where a total of 280 women received either weekly iron supplementation (200 mg ferrous fumarate and 200 mg folic acid) for 24 weeks or a matching placebo. Capillary blood samples were drawn at baseline and post-trial to determine haemoglobin, haematocrit and ferritin concentration. Mean corpuscular haemoglobin concentration (MCHC) was calculated using the haemoglobin and h

Emulsifier Intake in Healthy Controls and Patients with Inflammatory Bowel Disease: A Cross-Sectional Comparative Study with Longitudinal Follow-Up of Long-Term Outcomes.

BACKGROUND: Ultra-processed foods (UPFs) and dietary emulsifiers have been linked to inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) pathophysiology, but intake in IBD patients compared to healthy controls (HCs) and their association with clinical outcomes remains incompletely understood. OBJECTIVE: We hypothesized that IBD patients consume higher amounts of UPFs and emulsifiers than HCs and this associates with long-term IBD-relevant outcomes including hospitalization, surgery and emergency department (ED) visits in patients. DESIGN: The study has a cross-sectional design comparing dietary intakes between

Usual micronutrient intake and food selectivity among Brazilian children and adolescents with autism spectrum disorder: a cross-sectional study.

BACKGROUND: Feeding difficulties, particularly food selectivity, are commonly reported in individuals with autism spectrum disorder (ASD), raising the possibility that these aspects may affect dietary intake, including essential micronutrients. Many studies on this topic fail to adequately adjust for within-person variability, potentially misrepresenting usual nutrient intake. OBJECTIVE: This study evaluates micronutrient adequacy among children and adolescents with ASD with and without food selectivity, based on usual intake estimations. DESIGN: This study used a cross-sectional design and

Understanding Postpartum Mothers' Perspectives of Chrononutrition Approaches: A Qualitative Study.

BACKGROUND: Postpartum weight retention (PPWR) is common and associated with poor health outcomes. Traditional weight management approaches have limited success postpartum. Due to infant-related sleep disruptions, late-night eating may be more common postpartum and contribute to PPWR. Chrononutrition interventions, which align energy intake with circadian rhythms in metabolism, demonstrate promise for weight loss in nonpostpartum populations and offer a novel approach to preventing PPWR. However, no studies have explored whether chrononutrition approaches may be acceptable postpartum, which is
